Do you keep a change jar? - Page 4

The last time we took our change jar to the bank (five gallon jug) we had about $1,200 that we used for a mini vacation. We had to saw off the top because it was so heavy to try to shake out of the narrow hole! We will not do that again. This time we are using a 2.5 gallon jugs and saving for a new washer.

Not stupid! My parents kept one when I was a kid. They'd empty it 3-4x a year and get $400ish each time! My Dad emptied his change each night, so it added up quickly (they also only used cash = more change vs. if they'd use CCs or debit).

And we do keep one now, yes. It's a small one and we empty it once every two months or so. It's around $75 each time. We use debit a lot, so we don't have much change normally. We just use it for everyday expenses, nothing special.
