State registeries - other than opting out, are their ways around them?

If a state has a vaccination registery and you can't opt out, is there a way to get a vaccination that won't go into it? (cross state lines, etc..?)

Just curious.

When we got a vax at a family practitioner (that doesn't see many kids), they just didn't enter them into the registry. They didn't do vaxes that often, so they just forgot. We later asked them to do so because we had to continuously show proof of vaxes given because every other doctor wanted to double up.

I cross state lines and give my dad's address.

though, if I went to our family dr, he doesn't enter them into the registry either.

Registry? Like a state database? I'm...wow. This creeps me out.

I noticed when I was signing my DD's emergency card that there was a little line in tiny print above it that said basically by signing the form you are giving them the ability to add her to the state registry. I wanted to scream.

My youngest is not on the registry (he hasn't seen a doctor since he was 1 month old and he's unvaxed) and the health dept called our house. My DH told them it was an invasion of privacy and we are protected by HIPAA. She got testy with him and then said never mind and hung up.

Our kids really ARE the property of the government. How long before the get serial numbers tattoo'd on their buts are birth with barcodes to easily scan them? Sometimes it seems there is NO aspect to our own lives left that the government hasn't somehow been trying to control the last 10 years.

Public health surveillance is specifically excluded from HIPAA.

Here when a babe is born his or her name is put into the registry. Not all dr's offices/ practices enter children's immunizations into the registry.

Wow. I have never heard of this. Is there a registry for NY State.

Yes, every state has a registry for vaccinations as well as certain diseases/conditions/births/deaths. And it is specifically exempt from HIPAA

FYI too - You can opt out of the newborn metabolic screening at birth that the state requires and logs in their database. Then you can go and have it done with a private lab so you know the results but the state doesn't.

Why is everyone so freaked out by this, I really don't understand.

It is important to know the rates of diseases in communities.

Disease rates, yes, but the only purpose of the vaccine registry is to keep track of what shots your kids have so doctors' offices and schools can keep better records. It's not serving any greater purpose. Thanks, but no thanks, I can keep track of my kids' vaccines (or lack thereof) by myself.
