Best songs about babies/children?

I am creating a mix CD for my best friend as a baby shower gift. There are some great songs out there about babies, children, and being a mom- but I only know a couple! what are your favorites? So far I will include:

"Zion" Lauryn Hill
"Speaking with the Angels" Dar Williams (from Cry, Cry, Cry )

Oh, and there's a song called "Child of Mine" by a male artist, folk style, that was sung to me once and I can't remember who it is! Anyone know?

Muchas gracias!

'Baby of Mine' by Allison Krauss. It's a tear jerker.

Also, don't know the name of it, but Natalie Maines does a great song about her son on The Dixie Chicks 'Home' CD.

HTH,

I absolutely LOVE that Built To Spill song that is all from the fetuses point of view... It is great, but I cannot, for the life of me, remember the name... It is on the Nothing wrong With Love album, though...

good stuff...

My ex's sister made me a mixed CD for my shower and put The Baby Sister song from the Talking Heads and a lot of old blues stuff... I'll try to dig it out and give you more ideas...

I have to add the song "In My Daughter's Eyes" by Martina McBride.

I get choked up everytime I hear it.

These are so great! Keep 'em coming! My friend is having a boy, but we have a daughter, so of course I'm stoked to know about the little girl songs too. I can't believe i didn't think of some of these...

When You Dream by Barenaked Ladies

With Arms Wide Open by Creed (if it's not too heavy--I've heard an acoustic version that's nice)

Baby King by Marc Cohn

Just the Two of Us by Will Smith (about being a dad, but still good)

Wild World by Cat Stevens

I have the CD Mothers and Daughers by Rosemary Clooney and it is chock-full of great songs to sing to your child (boy or girl). Some of them include: Baby Mine, Always, That Face, The Best Gift, A Child is Only a Moment.

When DD was born, I got carried away and made 3 different cd mixes for her-fun songs, love songs and lullabies. I can't remember everything on them right now (it's in her room and she's sleeping), but off the top of my head:
Pretty Baby-Woody Guthrie
Sweet Baby James-James Taylor (I change the words and add her name!)
Godspeed-Dixie Chicks
Shining Eyes-Red Grammer
Butterfly-Lenny Kravitz

That's all I can think of right now-I haven't listened to it in a while.

This is a great thread and I totally plan to steal this idea!:LOL Here are some songs that we love

Godspeed : Dixie Chicks
Truly Scrumptious & You Two: Chitty Chitty Bang Bang CD
Feed the Birds: Mary Poppins CD
Baby Mine: Dumbo or Bette Midler
You Are My Sunshine
Jenny Rebecca : Olivia Newton John

I also really loved, and I hate to admit this the Dreamship: Lullabies for Little Ones by Kathy Lee Gifford

I think this is such a sweet idea

"Unconditional" by Willie Porter--the first verse chokes me up every time. '...She says I will always love you, no matter what may come. I carried you inside myself, the two of us are one. No matter how it falls out or comes undone, to me you will always be shining. And he stares into her brown eyes above, into the face of unconditional love.'

"Living Proof" by Bruce Springsteen--'Looking for a little of God's mercy, I found living proof.'
