I recently started applying aloe to my 4.5 mos old babe's face. I had some leaves cut from my grandmother's outside, established plant. Since I was beginning to run out DH purchased 2 small plants from Lowe's. Well, after cutting it a couple of times I went to cut it again. The leaf smelled so offensive I had to throw it in the trash. It was a stinky peppery smell. What I noticed also is that this one tends to bleed the yellow juice more than my grandmothers. I try to wash that yellow juice away because I read it is toxic?
I remember when I was young that my grandmother used to whack off a big leaf of her original plant, used for many things and it never stunk. That large plant was uprooted years ago. She only has another plant that has been kind of neglected and the leaves are small.
Does anyone know why this smells so bad? I cannot apply it to my LO's face this way and the smell was so offensive i'm scared to cut another piece.
Thank you!
