Need Suggestions for a Nighttime Strategy

Hi all
My ds is five months and EC is going pretty well during the day. We've been ECing since day four

He's never taken kindly to ECing at night, so I haven't tried much - sleep has always been my priority. A few weeks ago, I noticed that when he was waking (every three hours or so), he wasn't always hungry, but very squirmy and very wet. I typically change him at every waking. I switched from cloth to sposies at night at that point thinking that being wet was making him uncomfortable. Well, the sposies haven't helped any. He's still waking every three hours very squirmy and fussy, but not that hungry. When I try to open his jammies to change him, he starts to cry. Argh! Any suggestions for a 1) nighttime EC routine that minimizes wake ups and keeps him warm or 2) a better cloth night diapering system to keep him dryer. FWIW, he sleeps in his own room across the hall from us and we use MotherEase dipes.

Something you might ty is to let him sleep naked. Put a fleece blanket and a diaper under him and when the diaper is wet, lift his bum and swap it for a dry one. He probably won't even wake up all the way after you've done this a few times.

The room would have to be fairly warm, and I'm not experienced with boys and their streaming abilities, but this works with my daughter.. though we cosleep, so that might make a difference.

Hope this helps. =)

Babylegs to keep his little legs warm when his pajammas aren't covering them. Also, a lot of sleep sacks have diapering access for nighttime diapers (or EC!) with minimal disturbance. You might also try to keep the room warmer as the pp suggested. I hear that fuzzibunz are good for minimizing wet feelings, but I can't imagine them being any better than sposies. Maybe your son is waking because he has to go, and maybe he's letting you know that he's ready for nighttime EC now. Hope that gives you some ideas. You're the expert on your baby.
