Non-invasive prenatal blood typing in Canada?

Hi
I am O- and my husband is A+ and I am not so into taking the Rhogam or whatever it's called in Canada. I have read that they can blood type the baby by taking my blood- but I have only found a lab in New York that does this. Are there any Canadians who have had this done or knows where/how to go about doing it? I have my first OB appointment in 2 weeks (I am now 8 weeks).
Thanks!

If you're wanting to type baby ahead of birth I'm not familiar with that, but postpartum it's easy and non-invasive to collect cord blood to check the baby's blood type. As for Rhogam - the 28 week Rhogam is routine in N America but in many European countries it is given only postpartum if needed (based on baby's typing). The chances of becoming sensitized in the third trimester w/o invasive procedures or abdominal trauma are quite low to start with, though of course lowered even further by the 28 week shot.

Your Dr. or midwife can arrange to have this done, although the Rhogam shots are much less risky than how the blood typing is done.

There's nothing risky about the test. It's a maternal blood test.

That's the one site I have found where they will do the fetal blood typing from the mother's blood, but I would be so surprised if nobody else does it, it's been around for a few years now. I am still looking for another resource where I can get it done from. Anybody have one? In Canada, that is.

I'm not surprised. There's a patent on the test. Until the patent runs out, any company that wants to provide the testing is either going to have to fork over a giant sum of money to use the patent or is going to have to re-invent the process themselves. I believe the initial registration period for a patent is 14 years.
