Why should I love my Kozy?

ok, so I have way too many carriers, but I went and bought a Kozy b/c people seemed to love them.

me...not so much.

I love my ergo. Used it all the time. I thought the Kozy would seem like a softer, less constructed version of that. but, so far, I just feel like it is an unweildy octopus of cloth.

help me to understand if I am just missing something, or if indeed it really is just an octopus of cloth, and that that is its charm.

I want to love it. I love my ergo so much, but find it bulky to take around, or put in a diaper bag, etc. But I am not feeling the kozy love yet. thoughts?

Kozy is made from canvas, so it's not soft when new. It will however become buttery soft with wash and wear. I do love my Kozy and have used it from newborn stage through preschool age. BUT, the reason why there are so many different types of baby carriers is because not every carrier will be right every single person. So, while so many love Kozy, you may just be a mama that does not and prefers her Ergo to the Kozy. That's perfectly ok.

I'd give it a little time. It is nice having something you can fold down small for a diaper bag. But if you aren't feeling the love, than I'd pass it on to another mama.

is this your only mei tai? it sounds like perhaps you just don't like mei tai's. if you prefer buckles to tying straps, any mei tai is probably going to be the same for you.

i personally love the Kozy, but i love mei tais. i like structured carriers too, but they are definitely different beasts, and not everyone who loves one is going to love the other.

definitely agree with baturay that the canvas softens up with washing and use.

what kind of carries are you trying with it? perhaps if you used it in a different carry you'd like it better?

ohh, yes, I love the washing suggestion. I have a ring sling that I liked when brand new, but absolutely adore now that it is washed. (Baby pockets or something. Got it on etsy. It is silk. It kicks ass.)

I have tried her just on my front so far in the Kozy, just like she would ride in the ergo on my front. What else is there, other than having her ride on my back, as in the ergo?

Yes, it is my only mei tei, but I have other wraps (storch, etc.).

You didn't say how old and how big your baby is....if you're already used to the structure and support of the Ergo, especially for a bigger baby/toddler, then it may just be that the Kozy isn't supportive enough for you. When you're in the up-down-up-down phase, it can also seem like a lot of flippity-flipping with the straps all over the place rather than the simplicity of the buckles.

When Kelley first started making Kozys and there was a waiting list, I waited something like 4 months for my first one, and my son was something like 18 months old when I finally got it. I turned around and sold it pretty quickly because by that time I was using the Ergo (of the oldest generation) and just saw no point in the Kozy. But when my second was born, I loved loved loved the Kozy, both for front and high back carries, and it was my go-to carrier for a year or so. The tall body is fantastic for little babies and perfect for high back carries (a total lifesaver with a newborn so you can chase your big kid around!)

6 months old, 15 lbs.

I tried the high back carry tonight. I liked it, but then the straps slipped down to my waist and it kind of turned into a normal back carry. Maybe I just need practice.

Keep trying. Amusingly I feel the same way about ergos. I keep trying them, but they're a total pain compared to my kozy...
