Ongoing Alaskan Chat for November! - Page 6

Baby arrived this morning at 8:03 after 5ish hours of labor (woke up straight into hard ctx 5 min apart)--born at home in the water into daddy's hands. 8lbs even, 14.5in head and a nuchal hand, we thought he was stuck on his hand/shoulders but it turns out it was a short cord...it actually broke on its own as the midwife was working his shoulders out (I didn't even know that could happen!)
There are photos on my facebook, or I'll get some on the blog and link them here later in the week.

Heh, nuchal hand is what was holding the little bugger up huh? Broken cords can be a bit tricky. Congratulations!

Not nearly as exciting as Jenni's news, but I finally cut all my hair off.

Got sick of the morning dreads (spiral perm plus long long hair), put it in a ponytail and chopped.

I love it! So much easier to have kids crawling on me all day without them constantly yanking my hair out.

love, p

Oooooh, that is exciting! It always feels so weird when it's first cute. I have this strange habit of letting mine grow for a year or two and then cutting it around shoulder length, over and over.

I do the same thing...only this time, I have noticed it is annoying me to be longer! Weird!

Care to share a picture P???

No pics. We had even more excitement today...

OUR FIRST STITCHES! How do you mark an occasion like that? (I guess it marked itself...right on Iris' forehead). The kids were making a snow fort, and Elliot accidentally whacked her with the sharp edge of a forestry shovel...ouch. I didn't believe she needed stitches (facial injuries bleed so much) until I was cleaning her up and the wound GAPED at me, like a mouth in her forehead.

She was amazing. I just put a blanket on her, sat at her feet on the table in the ER, and they went to work. I sang to her and she kept her eyes shut. It was incredible how wonderful everyone except the Triage nurse was.

An eventful day already, and it's just past lunch time!

love, p

Yikes - that sounds pretty horrible. Glad she was such a trooper. Can't think of a way to mark the occasion though. (If she get upset or messes with them, does she have a doll or bear that can get stitches too? My mom did that for my when I was 4 and had to have stitches, also on my forehead, to help teach me not to pick or pull at them.)

Okay, no imminent birth wishes quite yet. Friday was my last day of work before starting maternity leave. DS is enrolled in daycare through November - and I really need to have Monday to myself with him there, DH at work and no labor. I don't have anything excited planned - mostly my chance to get the house in better order, b/c I know it won't happen after baby arrives. I might go get a pedicure or something indulgent though.

Unfortunately, I do still have some employment-related work to complete. My office is so small (5 people) and I've done 95% of the work on the Anchorage School Distract flu vax contract. I won't be satisfied until I've completed those committments - which are mostly finishing a December clinic schedule and compiling a recommendations report for the December clinics. So - I need until Monday to finish that too.

Last year, my mom laughed and tried to get a picture of "the ultimate multi-tasking working mom" - I was sitting on the couch, nursing my 1 year old, working on the laptop and talking on the phone at the same time. Unfortunately the picture was too dark. This time around, I'll just add a 2nd nursling.
