Good grief indeed! I hope it clears quickly and that you don't have to do the ER. My dh gets really scary serious urinary infections and he's allergic to sulpha drugs (found out the hard way) so I keep cranberry juice concentrate in the house at all times for when he starts feeling *off*. Red... here we are doing nada :P OK, dh & I are going to go out & make tomato cages for the plants and get them all back out in the sun (we had mad storms and I didn't want my seedlings to get smashed by it). Other than that not much today... and tomorrow we have swim lessons for the kiddies FINALLY a mellow weekend!

That was the first idea. They're like over $300. That's why I thought of renting a car-- for the same money, at least we'd have it for a couple of days!

The update is, instead of waiting till Tuesday to take it to a shop, he's taking a half-day at work tomorrow, and going to see his brother, and his brother's friend, a couple hours from where he lives. The friend is going to diagnose the car. At least there's a starting point. It's looking like transmission problems but maybe it's not so serious that three guys can't figure out what to do. Or at least keep it running through Thanksgiving.

Mamas, it needs to run through Thanksgiving...we need to be together. After all this time, after all these stars aligning in our favor, nothing can get in the way, now. At least not something so stoopid as a car not running.

I have a picture of his car in "My Pictures" but I don't know how to upload it here. If any of you want to light candles for it, for us, that would be so cool...it's a white...I think Oldsmobile? It's really old. Like 20y old. He and I are both on FB if you want pix of us, to add, but srsly, I'd really appreciate candles for this trip!!! I'd really appreciate it.

Dok - if you have Alka-seltzer in the house take one. It will alter the PH balance of your urine and can help to kill the bacteria! There are now otc meds for UTI's and in a pinch I have used them. I used to get VERY fast UTI's and also frequent, so I tried a bunch of stuff!

Clay – Focusing my thoughts on a good resolution for your brother. I have a friend getting an Army jerk-around that has been pissing me off. But this is so much worse.

Healing thoughts to the ill (including the sick cars).

Maia – Look at the option of renting a limo. In many places they rent by the hour, not the mile+time, and if you have to go any distance, they can be much cheaper than a taxi. (In Atlanta, it was sometimes $100 less than a taxi from the airport to northside ‘burbs). They're usually just a nice sedan, it won't look like you're going to the prom (but you'll probably feel like you are.)

Today was my last day of work before starting maternity leave. I’ve had a gut feeling that as soon as I felt like my life was in order, I’d have the baby. Well, I’m not ready yet – but apparently my body is getting ready. On my way home from work I start having the most intense and regular BH yet. DS was an incredible fuss tonight. He was the very last kid at daycare (of about 60 kids), yet wailed when I finally picked him up and carried him out when he refused to walk out. Screamed when I put his hat back on – windchill of 0 F, so a little important tonight. Maybe he’s feeling the contractions too. (He was congested and having hives today, so I’m sure he’s feeling a bit crummy. I wish I knew if it was viral or allergic though.) I guess the good news is that at least the contractions were doing something – baby didn’t go down into my pelvis, but my belly is a few inches lower.

Looks like winter is finally settling in here. About 6” snow this week and temps tonight in the sub-zero range. On Monday, saw an enormous moose walking down one of the main roads in town (4 lanes one way) – 8+ point bull moose, stood taller than a GMC Yukon SUV. DH saw two coyotes this afternoon rambling down a road today. The ravens are courting.

Maia is there any way you can rent a car and reserve it and such for him to pick up close to where he lives? Then he can come get you and you'll have the car for the days you're there, etc. I will say, we had the transmission crap out in our old van, and a new one was around $2000 to replace. The guy was going to be nice enough to let us make payments, but when he got in there to look at it, it ended up just being a $500 fix. Still painful but not nearly as bad as expected. Hopefully it's the same with your guy.

Mary, how are you doing the self guided herbalism courses? That's something I'm very interested in exploring more!

Well today is sure to be interesting. DH has already left to head up to his dad's (hence why I'm up at 6am!). One thing that's a must do it clean the fish tank, oooh baby. I can tell DH and I have spent too much time together the past year though, now when he goes out without me I tend to worry more about him. No reason to, he's a safe driver and we live in a safe area, I'm just not used to us being apart that much.

Not much else going on here, just trying really hard to find my motivation. Now I put it somewhere, where was it?

Liza- My girls can't believe that a moose can be bigger than a big car/van/truck. They said they need to see it. I would love to visit Alaska in a few years when Erin is older.

Maia- men- sheesh, a broken vehichle sucks, and yes, being beyond broke is stressful, but it is not the end of the world. lol I knew you would figure something out, he just needs to let you handle it.

It's an awesome site! I think it is less than $40 and you get access to all the lessons plus loads of extras in the form of ebooks including a cookbook and books on herbal remedies. My favorite is the ebook on herbal remedies for the cold & flu season.

Considering we were sweethearts in HS (but never went to proms together), it'd be fitting
I'll put that in my roster of "what to do if...". I think the best bet is having his car be workable through Thxgiving, though, but if that fails, I'm renting a car. I will not let his crappy boy-attitude get in the way

I am reallyreally hoping that that's the kind of case with his car, that it's way less of a big deal than he thinks it is. I don't know why he's not fixing it himself-- he told me the other day that he can take apart an automatic transmission and put it back together. Maybe he just can't diagnose things. But payments-- I'm going to pass on that idea to him. And great idea on renting the car close to where he lives.
But so far, he appears to be The Great Procrastinator, and I can just see him effing up the pick-up and all. At least if I rented one from the airport, I'd get it on time and get it back on time

I scored some great things so I can more easily HS DD! I got planning guides, curriculums, workbooks, manipulatives! All for $16! We just got back from a long walk, an she is napping until we leave for our BW meeting. I think there will be a bunch of new folks there today, so I am excited!

Gun, i'm really not worried about that, srsly. I don't have any red flags, and after 25+ years of not paying attention to red flags, I'm finally getting a clue about listening to them.

I think redveg is right, because so far, that's what he's been like-- initially freaking out and then calming down. And admitting it.

He does want to see me-- I think he's getting cold feet or something. I mean, after 35 years-- even though he says this isn't the case, I think he's built up some kind of fantasy-me that he's probably afraid will not meet the real-me test. Even though we've been getting to know one another all over again for many, many hours on the phone. And exchanged many pictures. I have the same fears-- why wouldn't I?

I'm not worried. About the car, yes. Not about him. Not even.

I do know this, he doesn't have credit cards, only a debit, and he hasn't got the $$ in his immediately-accessible account. I'm guessing it's probably in IRAs or something, like where mine is, and I don't have jack in my budget or my account at all. I am in very, very severe financial trouble-- I spend more than I make every month. So I do understand. Only he's better with the numbers than me-- I'm not about to pry, really, but I might
I've been raised not to ask people about money. But if I want to spend forever with him, I'm going to have to ask, huh?

I won't find out anything till maybe later, or tomorrow morning, so no sense in tweaking till I know, right? But Cari had the greatest idea, about renting with a GPS (who knew you could do that??) and I mentioned it to M after he calmed down from the first freakout, and he said "Hmmm" like it was a good possibility. AND he's still talking about "when you get here" and doesn't shoot it down when I say things like "when I get there".

Gluten free or diet restricted... I love Elena's Pantry and Karina's kitchen. Elena's is a bit more basic, while Karina avoids more stuff with stunning recipes (no gluten, soy, dairy). I've found that coconut milk makes an ok half/half substitute since it adds the creamy/fatty mouthfeel. If you sweeten your tea or oatmeal, coconut milk might be an almost seamless replacement. I'm not sure what is ruling out your instant oatmeal, but we use a store brand of quick oats that is gluten free... and slow cook oats often get dumped in a crock pot or rice cooker to be ready to go by breakfast. We also do a lot of brown rice (all meals) so I make a huge pot and then pop it in the fridge. Not as good as fresh cooked, but not bad reheated.

Maia- positive transmission thoughts headed your way! And perhaps add public transportation to your list? It may not get you to his doorstep, but it could get you pretty close and perhaps a taxi from the local commuter rail stop wouldn't be too much?

My brother- no updates yet. Apparently there is a disconnect between the Army and the VA. Since his disability rating was set by the VA it's possible the army doesn't actually "know" about his ongoing status. The best bet right now is to show up for processing with all his medical files and a lawyer. And given that he still really believes in the whole America and Apple Pie picture and hates the thought of not fulfilling each and every obligation he has... well... he has some very hard choices to make. And he has to make them quickly and without regrets.

Montreal- we used to go pretty often, especially for St Patrick's Day, (it's only a few hours drive from where I live/went to college) but we haven't gone since Ro was born. We're thinking we'll apply for the pass cards and start making more use of cross-boarder activities. Toronto and Ottawa are just as close as Albany and have some great museums/seasonal events. I'm sure the girls would love ice castles and skating!

We went to a birthday party today and had fun... nothing got done on the house, everyone is still sick, but it was so nice to just chat and nibble on cupcakes and have fun with other "young at heart" parents. Several are SCAdians as well so it was neat to learn about some of the more fdamily friendly camps at Pennsic. I swear, we'll be there next year!

Before they get bad (this is what we have done at first site, once they are REALLY bad its too late. Put nightlights out with a dish pan of soapy water beneath it at night they are attracted to teh light and fall in the water dying. Also spread salt all over your carpets, let it set overnight and then sweep it up. This is supposed to dehydrate them. HTH

But I wonder... the packet included a letter saying basically "sign here if you don't want to go. we'll cancel your medical bnefits and pension and we'll call it even." It makes me wonder if this is an attempt to weed out more "expensive" veterans. You know, a sort of go back to "work" or you lose your benefits deal. It totally stinks and he'll find out more in the next few days.

I also try to keep cranberry juice on hand in our house to. I've always been prone to UTIs so at the first hint I chug half the carton of cranberry juice and follow up the next day with yogurt.

In our world - finished our tortoise's outdoor home for the winter today. Debating whether or not to spend $25 on a 5K race next saturday (honestly trying to manifest a mysterious $25 or I won't do it), and trying to shake this allergy/cold/who knows that I've had since monday.

We are loading up DD2 with gluten for a celiac test but here is the odd thing - no diarhea. I'm at a loss. The only options are her gut it healing from the probiotics, liverlife, GAPS foods, or the root cause of the diarhea all along has been egg and we just never realized it. I dunno.... I'm really lost now......

Hope everyone else starts feeling well soon. Gonna be a bad season for sickness......

For some reason I don't think so... if he were going to completely back out he'd have never let it get to the point of having purchased tickets. He'd have come up with a dramatic excuse before she bought them. I had a friend that had that happen to her

I can't remember wth I was going to reply to.. and I have to head out nowish to take care of some errands :S We were supposed to have swim class today but Connor has had wicked bad nosebleeds since last night, so we canceled them as we didn't want him bleeding all over the pool So I'm taking advantage of it and dh & I made the tomato cages and put the plants back out after all the storms. You mamas should see my little potted veggies go! I shall take pics this afternoon after the sun isn't so glaring out, and share them

I'm off to pick up our xmas decoration layby since there's only 25bucks on it and then I'm going to get a posh iced coffeeand get my nails done. I seriously killed one of them at the build it workshop with the kids the other day and it looks rather gimpy lol. Plus it keeps catching on everything under the sun... Murphy sucks

Egads, of course, you are probably right. He thinks he's ugly and has expressed some worry in that dept. But he's also said more reassuring things about me, like, when I expressed worries about my fat and all, things like it's no big deal, people age, people come in all sizes, I like buxom women , you are beautiful. Stuff like that. We've sent many, many recent photos of one another.

I don't know what public transport there is. Logan airport is quite a ways from Worcester, I think. I did look into car rentals online last night, just in case, and Enterprise has an economy car (or compact or something) for just $154!! The others, the cheapest was $235 or something. But still considerably less than the $300+ he was quoting for a taxi!
I've used Enterprise lots of times when my car's had issues and had to be in the shop. I'm happy with them.

Got a quick email from him yesterday saying "everything's fine, got here OK" but that's all it really said-- dunno how the car's actually doing.
I printed out big pics of the car and I pasted together a pic of him and me, and I've got a candle lit. I think I am going to keep it lit as a vigil between now and when I leave.

I hope your brother is able to figure out something acceptable. That just stinks.

You can rent a car with a GPS. Thanks for suggesting it! It's like $50 extra, I think. I'm not going to do anything more about looking into stuff till I hear from him, then decide. If he says his car isn't working, I'm going to reserve a car today, probably, or tomorrow, before his freaky-deaky mind can manifest all sorts of cockamamie silliness.

I am going to ask him about finances, though. Probably not till I get there. Like I said, it's going to be hard, since money has always been a taboo subject for me, but I probably need to.
