New to CD, looking for best fit for DD

I am looking to convert to CD. I've been researching all the options and am having a hard time deciding.
DD is nearly 4 months old. She's 12lbs (wearing size 3 mo. clothing) and is EBF.
So far I'm leaning toward the Fuzzibuns or BumGenius. SHould I go with fitted or onesize? ALso I heard snaps were better...true? Or prefolds? if so, what covers?
What would you that CD suggest?

I really liked using prefolds on DS with Bummis covers. I liked the ones with leg gussets the best to help contain leaks. DS only pooped once a day, or every other day so I only had 4 covers. I found poop usually leaked on my covers and needed to be washed, so you may need more covers.

I love my Fuzzibunz. I haven't tried the onesize, but I did buy some used smalls and mediums. The mediums didn't fit DS until he was a lot older because he didn't have chunky thighs. If you're going to try Fuzzibunz, I would go with a small and see how you like them.

I also have Bum Genius AIOs, and I really didn't like them. DS was 90% for height, and 50% for weight, and they were just too wide in the crotch for him. I find the Fuzzibunz give a better fit.

I think snaps are best when your child can figure out how to undo the aplix, and they don't get fuzzy in the wash.

Have fun buildling your stash and trying different kinds to find your favorites!

I would definitely try out a few different options, you might be surprised at what you find you love! Before DS was born I got a bunch of BumGenius OS dipes. When I started using them I decided that I loved them because they were SO easy. Then I ordered some rump-a-rooz that I found online and I loved those because they had inner AND outer gussets. Now after 4 months I only use the BG and rump-a-rooz when I am going out because they are easier for me than prefolds.

At home I use prefolds and I love, love, love them. The clean really well, unlike my pocket dipes which seem to get really stinky all the time, I don't want to have to spend hours and hours washing my dipes a special way all the time. Prefolds are not synthetic and therefore don't hold in stink like microfiber does. Prefolds also dry a lot faster, and you can re-use covers quite a bit before you have to wash them. Plus the fact that pf's are really cheap is nice too.

I did find that my BG's were great when DS was slimmer and not so chunky, and they are great now that he's a chunky money (4 months old and almost 18lbs!) Fuzzibunz have that adjustable leg (I think, am I right?) so that is nice, and of course pf's are very adjustable!

Oh, and the covers that I love are Thirstie's, and of course wool. I would suggest one sized dipes because they do last longer than the sized ones and aren't that much more expensive, so you'll be saving money rather than having to buy a bunch of one size then having to buy a whole new stash of another size

between fb and bg i would probably pick bg, but know that they probably wont fit till potty training and expect maybe having to replace the aplix on them at some point. bg will send a kit to do this if you call them and request it ive heard. this is just because i dont like the way the new fb fit my dd (loved the way the old style fit). other people may suggest something else. we do really love our thirsties duo wraps and prefolds too though.

thanks for the replies.
ok, so if i go with PF and covers (for at home use) I was looking at the Bummis, Thirsties and the Prorap....all of which have velcro (aplix)..is there a great cover with snaps??

What about an AIO with snaps?

I recently converted to CD. It seems like different solutions work for different babies and you really do have to buy a few things you end up not liking before you find a good system.

I would recommend not buying a lot of diapers before you try a few different ones. I bought single diapers that had gotten good reviews on diaperpin, trying them one by one. I've seen a number of posts from people who went out and bought a whole stash of a particular kind of diaper without doing test runs, and are now trying to sell off a whole bunch of expensive diapers that didn't work well for their LO. I am pretty happy I did not do that.

About the aplix... I tried some snap diapers and I actually prefer the aplix because it is more adjustable, you can vary the tightness however you want instead of being confined to a particular snap setting.

I agree it can be annoying in the wash but it really depends on the cut of the diaper. The BumGenius 3.0 dipes have exposed aplix on the OUTSIDE of the tab (why? dunno) and there is no way you can cover it up. The Softbums that make up the majority of my stash are well designed so you can easily cover up all of the aplix, and I never have problems with them sticking to stuff in the washer.

The other problem I hear about aplix is toddlers figuring out how to undo their own dipes... my LO is only 5 months old so we will cross that bridge when we come to it.

If you read these boards long enough that somebody loves each of the options. I think the best thing to do is to buy a couple of used dipes in a couple different styles and then find out what you reach for you first. I was totally surprised my conclusion (fuzzi bunz). Now that I am used to the routine, I realize that I could probably "deal" with with prefolds too, which were scary to me before cloth.

We used disposables with DS and started DD with cloth. My husband and I are really kind of horrified by how easy it is, just like everyone says. I don't bother trying to find a nightime solution, strictly old style fuzzi bunz for me, and it is really, really easy.

made my first order :)

I made my first order yesterday.
I went with Green Mountain and I got a basic few starters to try:
-12 small white prefolds
-1 Thirsties (new style) cover in small
-1 Litewrap in small
-1 Bummis Super Whisper Wrap in small
DD is 4 mo., 12 lbs. She is a little on the longer, leaner side so I hope these work...

I'll see what I think of these and go from there. I do believe I'd like to get a few fitteds, more prefolds and more covers, but I'll start from here.

Is there anything else I missed? Anything you just really love and suggest I get?

Imse Vimse soft cover comes with snaps now. Have only just ordered one but am expecting great things! The day they make the organic cotton wrap with snaps is the day my life will be complete. The IV AIO also has snaps and it's been a great fit on my long skinny DD2.
