I have a 2.5yo with wild hair and cradle cap. We're white. She has wavy hair. I comb or brush it daily. Shampoo with Burt's Bees Shampoo weekly. Any suggestions to keep down the poofiness and get rid of the cradle cap?

My kids are 5 and 2.5, and we're still dealing with off-and-on cradle cap. When it gets really bad, i put oil (any kind will work) in their hair, let it sit and then work on it with a comb, then wash it several times to get the oil out. This combing only works if it involves a bribe for the elder and nursing with the younger.

When i remove the flakes/scales from dd's scalp, her hair comes along with it. It looks like the scales are growing over her hair, so her hair can't grow. For that reason, i feel it's important to get the scales out. I just pick at it when she'll let me. When it gets really bad (one time so far with each child), i use oil.
I still wonder how it starts. I've heard over-shampooing/dry scalp, under-shampooing/oily scalp, not rinsing the shampoo out completely. I wash their hair once a week, roughly, with Dr. Bronner's. Both of them started life getting washed every other day, then it was twice a week. Now once a week. No change. I don't often brush their hair, so i wonder if it would have a chance to grow if i did.
