What kind of crafts? Do you favor nature-based crafts? Fun, exploratory crafts? Crafts that make a pretty product or are more about the experience/self-expression?

I don't care about the end product. Nature based would be great, but anything else would be wonderful too. We were talking about letting the girls do all the decorations for the tree this year, paper snowflakes, popcorn/macaroni garland, stuff like that and I realized I remember doing lots of crafts as a kid but I don't remember much.

My favorite nature-based (and Waldorf style) craft book is "Earthways" by Carol Petrash. The best "old-fashioned" craft book that would include the things you mentioned and other crafts of our childhoods is Crafting Fun: 101 Things to Make and Do with Kids by Rae Grant. My favorite uber-creative, open-ended craft book is Scribble Art by MaryAnn Kohl. You'll probably be happy with any of those!

I originally bought this book because the author had the same name as me. But it turned out to be a cute book. It's mostly for Holiday crafts and baking. It may be a little advanced for a 5 year old but with help from mom, it can be fun.

Hope you like it!
