Hello everyone. We co-slept with DD until at around 9 months she moved to her crib in her room. Now we are cosleeping again with 5 mo DS in a co-sleeper next to our bed. Actually, he sleeps in the co-sleeper for naps and the first part of the night, but I can't get him back into it once I get into bed.
DS has never slept through the night. He has consistently wakened every 1-3 hours to nurse since birth. For a while he'd sleep in his crib until after I got into bed, but lately he wakes up fussy around 10 p.m., before we even go to bed. So his waking is not related to having me next to him.
We've been through some rough patches where he was fussy throughout the night. Lately his new thing is that he nurses every 3 hours and has a loud wakeful period around 5 or 6 a.m. that lasts 1-2 hours. The result is that DH and I are very sleep-deprived. Sometimes he even wakes up DD down the hall. This morning DH tried taking DS onto the couch with him to allow me some more sleep, but I could hear DS crying and I couldn't get back to sleep.
Seeing that we have a 2 bedroom apartment, i.e. DS and DD will be sharing a room when he moves out of ours, what are our options to try to get some more sleep? I love cosleeping and don't expect DS to sleep through the night yet, but this is really insane. DH and I are like zombies all the time.
