WBV Scheduled This Week...WWYD?

DS's 15 month WBV is scheduled for this week. We do very s/d vaxing. I was planning on having him get his 4th HiB and 2nd Polio (this would be the one and only time that I planned on doing 2 vaxes at once).

He has had runny nose/congestion for the past week (needing the snot sucker before nursing most days, but only needing steamy shower/saline once), but has been otherwise fine.

I'm feeling anxious about this upcoming WBV because:
1) it seems like he's already fighting something, and I'm concerned about what germs may be lurking in the waiting room and exam room (i.e. flu or flu-like)

2) i know my ped will say it's fine for him to get the HiB and Polio with the runny nose, but i don't feel as sure.

3) i really (!) am not looking forward to being asked about flu vaxes and prevnar. ped has been pushing prevnar. we didn't do flu last year (ds was 6 months at the end of the flu season anyway) and i wasn't planning on it this year, but i feel the tiniest bit wavery on the h1n1 vax (don't even know if the office has it, but assuming that they do). if we don't do h1n1 then she'll use that as even more ammunition for prevnar (to prevent the secondary infection when/if he does get flu). i've been doing much looking into prevnar and trying to figure out if it could even help and i really doubt it would. and i feel like i'd be more willing to do h1n1 than prevnar. but, honestly, it's one of those decisions where i think i'd rather let the passage of time make the decision rather than make it myself - that is, if i postpone making the decision about h1n1 and prevnar for several more months, than either he gets flu and/or pneumonia or the flu season ends and he doesn't get it. and then i don't have to make a decision. does that make sense?

so, do we go to the visit this week? do i call and reschedule for a week or two from now?

I can only tell you what I would do and that is to cancel the appointment and not go back unless the child is so ill that it can not be handled at home.

We have never encountered that point yet with our 12 yr. or 6 yr or 3 yr old grandchildren. Needless to say, they are not vaccinated at all.

I would cancel it and reschedule if and when my child was healthy and I felt more confident with my decisions.

Cancel the appointment until you feel more comfortable.

Look at it from the other angle - why DO you think you should go??
Cancel....don't go unless you feel confident in your choices. Also LO should NOT be vaxed when sick no matter what the ped tells you!!!!

If you are not sure that you should go then you should not go.
it is your instinct telling you to reconsider.
follow your consciousness. it is your best friend.

Yea that. IF you are going to vax, definitely only do it when LO is totally healthy. In the meantime you can work on rebuilding his immune system with extra vitamins C and D and probiotics!

I'd cancel if I were you. I took my healthy child for her WBV about 2 weeks ago. I got her the Polio vaccine because that is one my DH really wants her to have. We are S/D for most of them though. Anyway, she ended up with a nasty virus after her WBV. I think it's a combo of the Polio vax running down her immune system and being exposed to some "kid specific" virus when we were in the Dr's office. If I could go back and do it again, I would definitely skip it. She is still fighting this virus and it's on the 2nd week of it. She hadn't been sick since last spring.

Dr. Mercola just had a post this morning about Hib and MMR specifically causing immune suppression for about a week following the shot. If you are worried about the flu, then suppression you little one's immune system at this time - when he's already run down and the flu is going around - probably isn't a good idea.
