silly question

has the size of your belly, from past experience, played a role in how large your newborn was? - can you have a big belly and come out with a small lo or a small belly and come out with a large lo? sounds silly i know, but just wondering mostly because mine is not massive or even all that large. i take a look at the belly pic thread here and see everyone's beautiful big tummies and then gawk down at mine which is much smaller. just wondering if this means he will be small?

experienced momma's or really anyone who has an idea about this can post. TIA!

I can only speak about my own experience...My belly was biggest with ds1 and he was my largest so far at 9 lbs 8 oz. I was smaller with ds2 and he was 8 lbs 9 oz. I'm smallest yet with this one and have no idea how big she will be My guess would be that she'll stay in until she's at least 8 lbs.

My belly was small with dd, I thought she would be 5 or 6 lbs and she was 8 lbs. This time I'm about the same size, but I'm still worried baby will be small, even though dd came out a great size.

My sister has 3 boys. Each pregnancy she gained more weight and got bigger. Her first 2 boys were both 8lb12oz. Her third pregnancy she gained 70 lbs, was way bigger than the other 2 times, and baby was 7lb13oz.

I had a bigger belly with this little guy, and he was my smallest. But only by 3 oz, and only a 5 oz difference between ds and dd1. so really not that much of a difference. I did seem to get bigger with each pregnancy.

I was wondering this too, but then I realized I have a really long torso, and some people have really short torsos. This will make their bellies look bigger/smaller sometimes! We had a girl at work who was huge, andher baby ended up being around 8lbs, her torso is really short though so there was no where for her belly to go except out!

I was wondering as well....I have "measured small" throughout the entire pregnancy---(and yes, am sick of everyone around exclaiming "you bareeeeely loook pregnant!!!" all the time! lolol)-- and have been sent for u/s because of this....and the baby is always growing at a great rate and everything looks a-ok. (plus I have gained 24 lbs. so far-- so I am right on track to).

Maybe I just have a longer pelvis (although I am only 5'6") and the combo of that and carrying him "low" makes this happen for me. (plus its my first)

I have known women who "looked huge" and had small babies and then vice versa.....

I always measured around my belly at belly button level with my pregnancies. My first got to 43in after my due date (i went 10 days over) and was 10#4oz. My 2nd only got to 41.5in but he was 11#1oz.

This time I am expecting a girl and so hoping for her to be smaller, but my belly is measuring around at 43.25in and I am 38wk4days.

I think a lot of it is the position of the baby. DS1 always had his bottom sticking out where as DS2 was posterior until labor.

Oh, I weigh/weighed right around the same with all pregnancies.

Oh my dear! This is EXACTLY how I've been with all my pgs - even my twin pg. With the singletons I measured on average 2-3wks behind - and my bellies were always so 'small' according to those who commented. My first two babes were 8lb each - my 3rd was 10.5lb. I was sent for an u/s to make sure he was growing as I was 3wks behind - the u/s dated him at 2 weeks AHEAD! A discrepancy of 5 wks.....

With my twins, I had a nurse come into my room after delivery all in a tizzy - she'd seen me head down to deliver and said good luck - see you later. She had NO CLUE I was having twins. She said she's seen singleton bellies bigger!

my smallest belly was my biggest baby. I'm about that size this time, too. we'll see!

Well, with #1 my belly was the biggest at about 50 in around baby boy was 8#10oz- last time I didn't measure exact but was certainly smaller and gained 20 less, babe was 7#7oz. This time I am probably abut on track with last time, but no baby yet so who knows how big this one will be. I think she is on track to be as big as her sister or bigger, but time will tell.
