no crib, just a mattress?

DD is one and I have a really hard time getting her down in her crib. It's happened 5 times in a year. We cosleep at night, but for naps she sleeps on the floor. I'd like to start transitioning her to her own bed, but we have no luck with the crib. I'm wondering if it would be ok to just pack the crib up and use the mattress on the floor in her babyproofed room. That way I could nurse her down, sneak away and do my thing and then go get her when she wakes up the first time. Would this work or is there something I'm missing here?

Has worked great for us since month 1! We use bolsters and throw pillows etc as bumpers for the wall. Sometimes have put his crib mattress on a futon on the floor so I can just roll away, but still be comfortable enough for my nap too. All you're missing is extra furniture, and who needs that?

No experience with this, but I really like this idea and don't see why it wouldn't work. We don't have a crib, and I've wondered about what we will do when he no longer co-sleeps. I've been thinking about doing just this when the time comes.

My ds slept in a crib until he started climbing out at 15 mos. At that point, I just put the crib mattress on the floor. It worked well and he slept that way until he was around 26 mos. We were moving to a new house so we set up a regular bed with a bedrail and he did just fine in it. I plan to do the same thing with dd once she starts climbing out of the crib.

DS napped and slept for the first part of the evening on a futon mattress in his room at that age. I could NEVER get him into a crib. We gave up and got rid of it!

LOVED the full size mattress on the floor of DD's room for the first three years (until she was a toddler it was only for naps), then we added a bed frame once she was solidly never rolling onto the carpet
