Dentist and breastfeeding....

Hi all. Well, it looks like I have a few cavities in my front teeth. I have had them before and they were filled in with a white colored filing.. Anyway, I might have to do this again and get the novocaine shots like I did before.. What do you all do in this situation? Just pump ahead of time for a few days worth of milk? I actually dont know how long I would need to wait before breastfeeding again after getting the novocaine shots... Does anyone have any info for me? I appreciate it!

I just got several fillings done over the summer, and according to my dentist there was no risk of novocaine getting into breastmilk. I probably should have looked it up, but DS was fine and from what I understand, local anaesthetics usually wear off within a few hours anyway.

Here you go...novocaine and lidocaine are both considered compatible with breastfeeding.

Thanks for the info!!

Totally compatible. Heck, even the sedation I get when I go (I'm a complete dentist-phobe, lol) is fine as long as it's not a newborn!

I've had lots of dental work while bfing my little one. I even had major pallative surgery & an extraction that both required taking heavy duty pain killers with no problems. The only restriction was that i nurse right around when I took it not when the load dosage would be highest, around 2 hours later. But my boy was older (18 mos), and I can't say I followed it 100% the whole time.
