Hey girls! My baby girl was born Friday and my milk came in last night, but I'm noticing differences from my first baby.

This time :
1. I never got crazy engorged
2. When I nurse one side the other does not leak.
3. The BM seems yellowish in color.

Also like last time, I do not fel letdown

Do all these things sound normal???

Can I start taking fenugreek & blessed thistle now or do I have to wait?

DD is having wet and poopy diapers and is very content so I know she's eating, but I worry about my supply.

THANK YOU!!!
Jen

Congratulations on the birth of your newest little one!

Each time is different, so I wouldn't worry about signs 1 and 2. I didn't get as engorged with no. 2 *at all* (although I did still leak).

Nappy output is a very good indicator of input (and this indicates sufficient supply). If you are happy that output is fine, and she is content, then I really wouldn't worry at all.

Days 1+2, 1-2 wet nappies.
Days 3+4, 3+ wet nappies.
Day 5 onwards: 6 wet disposable nappies/day / 8 reusables
Urine is pale.
AND
Days 1+2, meconium.
Days 3+4, green transitional stools.
Day 5 onwards: 3-4 dirty nappies/day, loose yellow stools (may look "mustard seedy")

Does that sound about right for your little one? Are you feeding on cue (or at least 8-12 times/24 hours, no limit on length of feeds)? If the answer to both is yes, then it sounds like you're both doing great.

Yes, this all sounds right on....

I feed on demand and we cosleep so she's pretty much "on" all night long...lol.

1 and 2 sound very much like me after my milk came in. DD is nearly 20 months and still nursing happily. I've never had any supply problems. I can't remember what color my milk was, but yellow is a normal color for breast milk especially this soon in the switch from colostrum.

If you're getting enough diapers and your dd seems content then I wouldn't work on upping your supply. Oversupply is just as much a problem as under supply.

LOL I thought bm = bowel movement, not breastmilk!
Well yellow-ish is fine for either one at this stage of the proceedings, I think!

I had the same experiences for first babe (engorged hard as a rock, spewing milk everywhere, intense let down) and second (never engorged but could feel milk coming in from the sides of my breasts sort of across, very little leaking, feel almost no let down). They had me come back to weigh my first baby three times bc he wasn't gaining, but w this one they said I didn't have to at all bc he was so big the day I left the hospital. lol

eta: congrats on your new LO!
