from bad ped. to good ped.

My nephew is almost four months old, and the chunky monkey is 18 pounds! But he is height-weight proportionate and in the 98th percentile for both (and 100th percentile for head circumference, lol).

His pediatrician told my sister that she needed to start spacing feedings out 2-3 hours. I am a doula and she called me to see what I thought. I told her to find a new pediatrician. She did make an appointment (just for a consultation) and the new doc was flabbergasted that she would have been told to do anything but demand feeding for a young infant, especially when he is growing so well. My sister goes to school, and the doctor said he gets enough (expressed) milk from a bottle during the day, and however much he needs his mommy when she is home, is just how much he needs his mommy. She also faxed some information over to the other doc's office.

Favorite quote? "Some moms just make cream." She is now my nephew's new doctor.

Snort - I love that quote!

Isn't there a saying "if there ain't a problem don't fix it"? We'd see a lot fewer mothers in tears at LLL and other meetings if it weren't for people around them to fix this or that about the breastfeeding relationship (or about being born with a foreskin, for that matter).

Yeah he is uncircumcised as well and she told them she loves that so many more parents are making that choice nowadays.
