Should I send my son to school next week, theyre giving flumist....

Hi all. Well, next tuesday they are giving the h1n1 flumist at my son's school. I am definitely planning on keeping him home that day because I know there have been plenty of mistakes and kids getting the mist or the shots without the parents consent and I am not going to take that chance, but what I am trying to decide is if I should keep my son out the rest of the week since the kids who get the flumist will be contagious... I hate that they are giving this in school and that I have to worry about it. Its so ridiculous..but I just want to protect my family.. Also I wonder if whatever they put in this flumist is as mild as the regular h1n1 flu seems to be for most people or if it could be something more dangerous.. Does anyone have any idea about this?? I appreciate any info and I really hope this thread wont be cancelled since I am mentioning H1N1.... I just want to get some opinions from other parents about what I should do.. Thanks everyone!

Is anyone in your household immuno-compromised? If not, I would keep him home the day of the vaccine. No sense in taking a chance they would accidentally vaccinate him or get overzealous and throw caution to the wind. I would probably send him the next day though giving him the maximum amount of vitamin D for his body weight for 3-5 days.

26-50lbs = 10,000 IUs
51-75lbs = 15,000 IUs
76-100 = 20,000 IUs
100+lbs = 50,000 IUs (adult dosage)

My son's school just did the H1N1 Flu Mist on Tuesday. I kept him home Tues and Weds. My middle son is immunocompromised, which is why I kept my oldest home the second day. I debated keeping him home the third day, too, but am going to drive him to school and stay for a few minutes. If I see any kids with early flu-like symptoms in his class then I'll take him home.

I would keep him home the day of to avoid mistakes. However unless you plan on keeping him home for up to three weeks I see no point in keeping him home the rest of the week.

thanks all for your opinions.. I didnt mention that my son has autism and alot of immune system dysfunction. The thing with him is that he normally doesnt get really sick (maybe just a little) and then he passes it on to us .. I am still BFng my 16 month old daughter so I am hoping that she will be protected..Also my son does take Vitamin D. I am giving him 4000 IU per day right now... I just have not quite decided what to do... Maybe just keep him home tuesday and wednesday possibly, but Im not sure yet.
