Small foreskin injury

Thread Starter
My 4 year old ds zipped his foreskin up into his footed sleeper PJs tonight. REALLY zipped it in there, meaning it was stuck inside the zipper. Dh was getting him ready for bed and yanked the zipper back down right away but ds was screaming something terrible. I took a look at it and it is not badly cut, no blood or anything. Just what looks like a good-sized scratch. He didn't want anyone to touch it or do any kind of first aid so I thought I would jump on here and ask for advice. My main concerns are that it might burn when he goes to the bathroom, and that being in the general vicinity of urine & BMs, it could get dirty or infected. And of course, being a 4 year old he tends to handle himself quite a bit with not-so-clean hands.

Thoughts?

Mainly keep an eye on it, remind him about hand washing, put some bacitracin on it if the skin looks broken, have him do warm tub soaks to bring in circulation to hasten healing, be prepared for some temporary swelling, and maybe stinging with urination if the skin is broken - you can have in pee in a cup of warm water to dilute the urine, if this is a problem.

Ouchy poor little guy I agree with glongley keep an eye on things. Odds are he will heal in a day or 2 where no burning will happen.

It sounds like it may be more bruised than cut. It may swell up like a fat lip. Don't panic if it does, as long as it doesn't interfere with him peeing it should heal with no problem.
