I am reading all those sad and worried stories and questions and I was thinking that our community must have tons of examples of peole who did survive h1n1 and have something inspiring to share.. so I go first:
In late spring me and my 3.5 daughter had the h1n1. she is brestfed.
I was pretty miserable for two weeks, (but I was borderline aneimac at the time) she was very perky through the time and althogh she
had high fever nasal congestion and then super runny nose and sore throat
she kicked back after less then 4 days or so, never lost her energy,
witt or humor...
Now, subsequently other family members were and are sick with h1n1 and we have been around them me and my little one, without any special precautions aside from washing hands, but mind this .. there was tons of sneezing and coughing around us..
and neither of us got h1n1 again.. so..
we certainly get some immunity from what I see and for what I hopped.
Winter is not over, we might get more flu around and different strains
but since this funny flu has so many strains in it, that might be just
a happy coincidence that one would get some immunity to
swine, bird and what not strains in one onset of sickness..
so however we did not run and look for flu we figured out that
there is really no way to avoid it other then vaxx. and yet
it was not even available when we got it anyhow... we did not want
to vax anyhow even if it was.. and now seem that it is not really that important..
so from my take... healthy unvaxed preschooler that is bresfed
did okay and even better then okay since I remember last year
flu was more tough on her.
btw. we did not do any fever reducers but let it take it's course
of course fever never got dangerously high but then again
we felt that fever is known and scientifically recognized
mean to combat deseases best, better then anyting.
we did not do any cold medications either as those
only give you false sens of one being well and this is
what put people in trouble when they think child is okay
and send out into the world only to catch bad stuff
on the weaken and still recovering system.
we did though: plenty of bed rest for me and
lots of indoor resting for dd. since she would never
lie down for a minute in the bed we did as much
slowing down as possible..
we did tons of chicken soup - just the juice at first
we just cooked the chicken with veggies but
we did drink only as nobody had apetite for anyting at first..
we did do chicken soup after couple of days when apetite came
back..
we did tons of warmed up lemonade that was watered down
a bit, we used real lemon only.
we did also orangeade.. made as lemonade for a change
and it was delicous..
we did fresh juices of all kinds.
we did not do milk as long as there was a fever
as we had experience that milk did raise fever.
but we did milk after the fever subsided.
however my dd was up and running early into it
we did stick to the rule of keeping her indoors
for the whole 7 days. It took some
extra movie rentals :-) to keep her from
bouncing off the walls but it was well worth it from
what I believe.
so that is pretty much it. good luck and God Bless.
disclamer: that is my personal experience and my private opinions ,not medical opinion or adivse.
