Have co-nap - anyone else?

If I want DS to nap longer than 40 minutes I have to lie down with him. Does anyone else do this? I used to let him nap alone 3 x 40 minute naps but now I can't fit them into the day as he's awake longer, so I have to try and make him take two long naps and me being there to soothe him back to sleep when he wakes after 40 mins is the only way.

Would just like to know I'm not the only one.

I used to do this with DD when she was teeny. Then I figured out that when she woke up after 20-45 minutes she was still wayyyyy tired and I could get her back to sleep with a quick nursing session.

Eventually, that helped her stay asleep longer without me lying in beside her for the entire duration.

We had basically the same experience.

Now I can go upstairs and nurse him when he stirs (we have a video monitor, so I watch it carefully and sneak up before he gets too active/fussy/awake), and then ninja my way back downstairs. It gets better!

I had to co-nap with each of mine for a while as well. I would put the phone and books within reach before putting a baby down. Later, when we had older kids as well as baby, we would use that time as Reading Time and would all pile in bed with books to look at while baby napped.

I co-nap any chance I get. I NEED the extra sleep myself right now & it often helps ds to sleep a little bit longer.

We do & I enjoy every minute of it wether I read or nap myself its the only downtime I get really in a day besides nuring breaks.

I do. It is the only way my 22 mo twins will nap. It can go from 1 1/2 hrs to 3hrs. Thankfully it is only once a day. Sometimes I am able to sleep but boy would I love to be able to get a few things done during this time. Don't know how to get there.

You are definitely not alone !! My DS naps beautifully if I lay down with him. Otherwise, it's just short cat naps where he wakes up a sourpuss. I like the downtime, but I sometimes wish I could do things when he naps.

for those of you with older kids as well, what do you do with them while you nap?? bc my baby's 40 min naps are not working for me (or him!)

You're not the only one! I had to co nap with DD1 and it was wonderful and it was tough! Now with DD2 it's not really possible...
