Can I back carry my big baby?

My little guy is now 16+ lbs and over 25" long at 10 weeks and is taking over my front in my stretchy wrap. I would love to get him on my back...

Can you safely do a high back carry with a stretchy wrap? How about with a baby so big? (He doesn't have good head control yet at 10w)

Any good links to help me learn? I am trying to get to a babywears meeting but it won't happen for at least another month.

Thanks mamas!

I would not back carry with a stretchy wrap. Sorry.

You can carry a baby that young on your back though. You can get instructions here on making a woven wrap easily and inexpensively without needing to know how to sew. You want the no-sew woven wrap that is the 3rd set of directions.

Do you know about The Babywearer and their wonderful forums?

I used to carry ds on my back in a stretchy wrap I didn't understand why people think it is unsafe. But then I moved back to Canada & actually got to touch the stretchy wraps people are using (like the moby) & have found that the stretchy wrap I made is MUCH thicker & less stretchy than those - so I really think it depends on what you have. That said, we didn't do it for long as I found it frustrating to get him up there - once we got the ergo it was so much easier!
