Tide for washing cd

I am so confused on what is an okay soap to use. I get not to have something with oils or whiteners, but what are the chemicals I am trying to avoid and is tide an okay detergent to use?

We use the Kirkland brand, which is a generic of Tide. I honestly can't afford any of the pricey brands that are supposed to be the best for cleaning CD. Kirkland has worked well for us so far. I also use vinegar in the rinse for extra disinfection and to make the soft.

I used to swear by Tide. They got my dipes so clean and we never had problems with buildup or stink or anything for years! Then my youngest developed a sensitivity to the enzymes in the Tide (which are a big no-no with CDs for many). He developed almost like a burn on his bum.

We just switched detergents and now all is well.

Try the link above - lots of good info!

I used Tide long ago with a different baby (ok, mine's a toddler now!), and switched back to it recently after seeing some advice that it might help get rid of stink. The horrid scent did cover some of the stink (and may have cleaned better), but I noticed that the rash my DS developed in reaction to his stool (he gets severe allergic reactions occasionally) never went away. I read up (again) on the Pinstripes chart above and saw that the enzymes may cause problems. We switched back to Planet, and his sores are healing!

So, if it works for you and your baby, it's probably fine. BUT, it really can cause problems for little ones, and there are likely better options out there.

You might jsut have to try and see. We had horrid rash issues with pretty much every CD recomended detergant and wash rouninue but had tons of luck with Tide, Dreft and a product called Sun and Earth which was the only "natural" that worked but its expensive and after a whie we couldn't find it so we used tide. We also bleached so go figure.

Tide works really great for some people, horrible for others.

If you're using cotton diapers, pretty much any detergent will work to get them clean, but optical brighteners can wear down the waterproofing on your covers, pockets, and the outers of AIO's. Unfortunately, not all detergents are straightforward about whether or not they contain optical brighteners. And some of the detergents that DON'T contain optical brighteners, also don't clean very well. Hence the confusion.

Just wanted to recommend Country Save powder as an affordable option. It rinses completely clean like many of the pricier recommended CDing detergents. I can get it locally, but if you can't you can buy it in bulk off Amazon for a good price and free shipping. Many people love Tide for their diapers but if you find your baby develops a rash from it try Country Save.

I use NatureClean (a "natural" fragrance free det) usually, and then use Tide when the dipes start stinking (every couple of weeks, perhaps). Tide really does get rid of the dirty diaper and ammonia stink, but it leaves the yucky Tide scent. I also make sure I rinse really really well when I use Tide. Ds has never reacted to it. (Apparently, powdered Tide rinses out better).
I've found that using Tide occasionally is a happy medium, but I definitely prefer using the more natural stuff as much as I can.

I've heard good things about Country Save and Rockin' Green- they are on my list of things to try.

I use country save on everything. I love it!

Tide gives my kids a blistering rash from the enzymes, so I never recommend it. I like: Country Save/bumGenius, Vaska/FuzziBunz, Allens powder, Mountain Green Baby Free & Clear. None of these are more expensive than Tide.

ANd we had the opposite issue which drove me batter all those (tried the country save (worst for us) Allens Mountain green (that worked great for a bit) also things like Charlies, shaklee ect and all bad DD skin openly bleed but regular Liquid tide and all was well. It will be intresting to see how things go with this baby...
I'm going to actuall try the Arm and hammer once our current detergent runs out and see how we all here do with it. It will be a lot cheeper its enzyme free as well. If it cleans as well and no one breaks out I might make that our detergent since I do hate the tide cost.
