He has all the "normal" signs of a milk allergy/intolerance... red anus, rash, severe constipation, reflux, congestion, etc. That all disappeared within a day or two of removing him from the formula.
The commercial formula was only ever a short-term solution for us, though... We eat whole foods and a more traditional diet, and the extreme processing of the formula never sat right with me. These aren't things that I would put in MY body, so I really object to putting them in his. Which is why I'm headed into the kitchen in a few minutes to measure out the big pot of stock into individual bags and freeze it. I should have about a week's worth of stock - the formula takes about a quart a day. We'll be starting him on the stock based formula in a few days when the milk runs out. And we'll trial goat milk formula in a bit as well, since I have 5 gallons of goat's milk in the freezer. Hopefully he'll tolerate goat's milk better than cow's... but regardless, we should be able to keep him on the broth based formula indefinitely. The hardest part will be that good chickens are seasonal here and the season ends pretty soon.

And I totally understand your reluctance, I guess I just never knew there was a WAY to make it myself....short of being able to nurse full time, I figured I had to use formula, yK?
