strange reaction to spaying

Hello Everyone,

I had my 8 month old puppy spayed on Tuesday. Aside from being pretty loopy the first day, she seemed okay. But my dh noticed lastnight when he took her out she kept trying to deficate, but would whimper then run to him. She did this several times. I gave her a pill for the pain, but she did the same thing this morning (twice actually). The paper the vet's office sent home with me said to call if this occured. I did and I am taking her in this afternoon at 4.

She is also shivering which is abnormal for her. I don't see any oozing at the incision, but I keep finding drops of blood around the house. Not very much, maybe 4 or 5 drops throughout the last 2 days.

Any ideas as to what is going on with her? :-(

No ideas. I think taking her back to the vet is the right thing to do.

I hope she's feeling better soon!

That doesn't sound so great. I was thinking constipation when you described her behaviour outside (it can be a side effect of some medication), but the shivering wouldn't be related.

A vet visit sounds like a very good plan - let us know how it goes!

The shaking sounds similar to when my dog was done. He would kind of scamper around the house in a very unusual way and then sit and shake and occasionally wimper. Didn't get better so we went to vet. I think his stitches were infected...they gave anitbiotics and he was well shortly there after. Good luck with your puppy .

I don't know about the shivering, but I've heard that constipation after anesthesia is normal. Wishing you good news at the vets.

Thanks for the responses! We went to the vet and she said it was probably just constipation from the anesthesia and pain meds they gave me to give her. She gave me another set of pain meds for her and Daphne deficated without wimpering as soon as we got home. She's just cuddling away now. I wish they would't have made it sound so serious over the phone though!
