How long do Vaccines Shed?

I am just wondering because my cousin just had her one year old vaxed for everything they threw at her. Which means I am sure she got him both the flu and H1N1 vaccine as well, as everything else. She told me they gave her baby 8 shots. Anyway the only reason I ask, is she lives with us, and watches my son for me. His immunity is compromised right now, because he and I both have a bad cold, but I am getting better and he is just getting it. I don't want him catching anything else from my cousins baby, overall he is a really healthy little guy this is the first time he has been sick in about two years, but I would rather not have him sick any more.

umm, live vaccines shed for about 3 weeks. i dont know where your pedi got 8 hours from. More proof that they dont know what theyre talking about.

Yep. I recently read our state info sheet for the live H1N1 and it said up to 21 days.

She got her baby both the flu and H1N1, so I guess I just need to ask if he got the mist or the shot. She didn't tell me she knows I dont vax so when I asked her she got all defensive about why I asked her. I just wanted to make sure her baby doesnt get my baby sicker than he already is.

That number is from the seasonal flu mist insert (21 days) the study ended then, it does not mean that 21 days is the maximum. Here is the insert: http://www.medimmune.com/pdf/products/flumist_pi.pdf The pertinent portion is 14.5 Transmission Study. This is the full article on that study for anyone that is interested. http://pediatrics.aappublications.or...118/6/2298.pdf

I am confused- does this study in any way address the likelihood of a child becoming infected w/flu because of exposure to a vaccinated child? I'm not seeing that but please direct me to it if it is there.
I did find this study which acknowledges that the shedding time is greater than 3 weeks, but states that the actual risk to unvaxed kids was .58% to 2.4%.

And maybe I should have been more specific in referring to what my ped said about shedding time. I believe the actual quote was along the lines of "there are about 8 hrs afterward where you could be concerned". Her stance is that the live virus is such a weakened version that the likelihood of it being transmitted to another child, especially after that initial 8 hrs, if VERY small. (And the study that I am linking seems to support her position.)

I elaborated a little in my last post, and I guess I should have been more specific about our conversation before responding to this thread.
I have to say, some of us are lucky enough to have great working relationships with our LO's pediatric caregivers, and this statement reads like a lumping together of all pediatricians into a monolithic mass of know-nothings and honestly, it actually stings a bit. I'm feeling like generalizations and assumptions aren't all that conducive to getting more knowledge out there to more people, and isn't that the goal here?

I'm pretty sure that the mist isn't given to anyone under 2.

Interesting, so the CDC study shows no risk to unvaxed?
