Did you all see this article:

the sweet potato recipe looks crazy good!

We're going to my SIL's but I'm hoping to bring a few dishes.. Since I'm trying hard to be sugar free and gluten free, I'm hoping to make cranberry sauce, a sweet potato casserole, and cookies that everyone can eat, but I'm still trying to figure out something to bring that would be a reasonable "alternate" main course.. Basically, something that will fill me up.. Maybe honey baked lentils and a rice and greens dish?

Wow! We have Thanksgiving with my meat eating family so we just bring a tofurkey roast with gravy & eat whatever side are 'safe'. I am considering making a tofu/seitan roast but then I'd have to make stuffing too, so I don't know...

I think we are going to make our own homemade tofu turkey this year using this recipe:

Are tofurkeys good? My step-daughter and her boyfriend are joining us for Thanksgiving this year and are both vegetarian. So I thought I would just do a whole vegetarian meal this year. I'm not that into turkey anyway!

Where do you find tofurkeys??

Wow how thoughtful of you to go total veg for Thanksgiving! I'm not a big fan of tofurkey myself. Not the kind you buy in the store anyway. I find it rubbery and synthetic tasting. But, as you can see from this thread, some folks do like it. I'm pretty certain that it does not taste like turkey (although I can't be sure because it's been over 20 years since I've tasted turkey.) Can you enlist your step daughter's help or at least get her opinion? Maybe she loves tofurkey or maybe she has ideas for some other fantastic veggie main dish. In any case you can buy tofurkey at whole foods. Or you can try and make one at home someone posted a video about how to do that earlier in this thread.

I don't know if this is of any help, but I've frequently been a veggie guest at turkey centered thanksgivings and I've always appreciated it if the host offered me the chance to bring a veggie main dish or asked for suggestions. I've also really appreciated it when there was some stuffing baked in a cassarole dish outside of the bird-with no meat in it-and made with vegetable broth so that I could eat it. And when the salad is made without bacon bits or anchovies or anything like that or if those things were available to people who wanted them on the side.

vegetarian times this month has some delicious menu suggestions for a vegan thanksgiving if you are interested in that.

Have a great holiday!

I like Tofurkey fine, but it's not my favorite of the faux turkeys. I think Quorn roasts most closely resemble turkey (and they're much better if you take them out of the plastic casing and baste them while cooking - this goes for ALL faux turkey roasts!!!). My personal favorite faux meat is Field Roast, although it tastes nothing like turkey - it has a LOT more flavor! Really well spiced and savory. You can find pretty much all of these items at a Whole Foods or other major chain health food store; you can check your local health food store, too though they might not carry all of them. I've even seen Tofurkeys at more mainstream places like Fred Meyer (Kroger stores) or Field Roast is also sold at Safeway.

That's cool that you're doing this for them! I agree with you. Back in my omnivore days, I never cared for turkey.

IME, the Kroger/Fred Meyer stores usually sell Tofurkey, as do do most "natural foods" stores and coops. I haven't tried it yet, but I've heard good reviews of it from omnivores!
