Our DS has a Dec 4th b-day and he started KG last year. Now, he didn't have any issues with sight words, etc., but I did a lot of volunteering so I saw the huge range of abilities in the kids in his class. If possible, I would absolutely not worry about this right now. Maybe meet with teacher if you haven't done so to find out if SHE is worried.
I was amazed at the progress kids made over the course of the year. There were kids who couldn't identity all their letters in the fall. Who couldn't write their names in November. One kid couldn't name body parts at the beginning of the year. One kid had a major speech issue. ALL of these children were completely fine with their academic progress by the end of the school year. Honestly, some of the time it almost felt like magic, the way they learned. An awful awful lot of this will take care of itself.
