cheapest covers?

Thread Starter
ok, so i've been going back and forth about the whole cloth diaper thing for ages now. Ive started using them on my 4 month old when we are at home, but I need more covers. Does anybody know an inexpensive place to purchase them? I dont need anything fancy, I really just need the cheapest option. Also, if I am using prefolds, do I need to use pins or snappis? or will the diaper stay together with a cover?

I've heard that Dappi Nylon covers work wondefully well. I've not used them I'd recommend you try them. If you do you will need to snappi or pin your prefold on.

Let's see - do you want pull-on covers or wrap ones? For pull-on covers you'll want to use pins or a snappi to keep the diaper in place. For wrap covers it's not necessary but it can be helpful to contain runny poo.

Some inexpensive ones I know of for pull-on:
- Dappi Nylon Pants (as mentioned above, seems to go for around $6)
- Bummis Whisper Pant ($5.25-6)
- Basic Connection ($4 at Nickis Diapers)

And for wrap covers:
- Litewrap ($8)
- Bummi Original ($9)
- Prorap Classic ($7.50)
- Dappi w/ velcro ($5)

A good argument can also be made for using one-size covers. Although you will pay more for them initially, they will last through several sizes. Some other choices to consider are fleece and wool covers which you can make yourself if you knit or by recycling sweaters.

I have tried a bunch of covers and I always go back to the Bummi Original. The $9 pricing is standard pretty much anywhere you look. I never use pins or snappis but we also practice EC so I rarely have to deal with any poo at all.

Green Earth covers and Prorap are good cheap covers that I know of. I haven't tried the others that are listed. My favorites are the Thirsties and Bummis, but if you want just white and cheaper, the Green Earth are what I prefer.

And we don't use snappis - many people do prefer using them, but we fold the prefold and place it in the cover to put it on and it works great! And keeps everything in too!

I love love love Motherease. I bought some thirsties also and they just don't compare. I rarely ever get leaks with mother ease.

Try Craigslist for great prices on used covers.

I second Craigslist. Or, Cottonbabies just came out with Econobum, but I don't think you can buy just the covers. I may be wrong though. They're supposed to be good and inexpensive-and fairly one sized!

I love Thirsties covers, both the sized and the new duo. You can find some good deals for them online and on Amazon.com. FYI - They run a bit smaller than the weight range that is listed.

You cannot beat Nicki's Diapers... http://nickisdiapers.com/
They have a policy that lets you TRY dipes & covers for 15 days & return them (for credit) to try a different type if you didn't like the first ones!!! You really won't find THAT anywhere else that *I* know of.

With my first two, I just did the old-fashioned prefolds & vinyl pants standby... Not really even knowing what was out there! I just ordered these Dappi Diaper Covers (http://nickisdiapers.com/catalog.php?category=971) about two weeks ago & LOVE them... we haven't had any leakage problems & they are just so darn cute!

Good luck! I think cloth diapering is fun... but I have been called crazy before. :-)

I liked the prowraps when DD was a nb, and now that she is 5 months I like Litewraps, the Basic Connection pull-ons, Thirsties Duo (watch the sizing, very small and trim) and the one size Blueberry covers. Except for the pull-ons and the prowraps everything else has a nice deep leg gusset which we really need for DD explosive, runny poo. We use a newspaper roll fold and Snappis to keep it all in too, trifolding always resulted in poo leaks for us. You only need 1-2 Snappis though. Good luck!

Cotton Babies, is selling Econobum covers seconds (without the prefold) for $6.95! They are seconds, but I have heard they are pretty much flawless. Its a great price and they are One Size Fits Most, so they grow with your babe.
