stripping fuzzi bunz?

they got diaper cream residue on them (an olive oil/beeswax balm was used on baby) and now have a waxy residue and are grey (the insides).
I've been washing them in hot water, but it's not really working.
Can I strip them in my dishwasher? or other ideas?

scrub the insides with dawn and wash on hot with no soap a few times?
