Nursling has thrush. Treat me too?

My dd is 20 mos and has just started her 3rd month long round of diflucan to try to knock out her yeast. It isn't just oral thrush but covers most of her body.
I have not been treated myself because I have no symptoms of excessive yeast but I wonder if that is deceptive. Could I have yeast and be reinfecting her and not realize it?
I have tried herbals and probiotics and they haven't helped.
I think I could probably convince my dr to perscribe the same antifungal for me. I'm just not sure if I should.

Thanks for your thoughts.

So sorry about the thrush! When my daughter had it, her pedi said not to worry about treating me, though my midwife adamantly said I needed to be treated. So my lesson learned was to check multiple sources to find what was best for me.

If nothing else, taking a probiotic supplement might help and certainly wouldn't hurt.

Glad you're not noticing any symptoms for yourself. Having it on the nipples is no joke!

I would definitely treat you too, a little gentian violet on both breasts is probably going to keep things at bay - thrush is no fun at all, preventative measures are so important IMO

YES! It is like never ending sometimes if you don't treat yourself, this is how it was for me anyway.

Thanks.

I'm already taking probiotics and herbal yeast fighters. I have a script for diflucan now.

If you don't have symptoms, I doubt you need to take diflucan, though personally I've only been in the opposite situation where I had symptoms and my LO did not. Diflucan is prescribed for systemic yeast - often in this case you'll feel shooting pains inside your breast, as opposed to just sore nipples (which I understand you don't have either). It might be better to treat topically first, and if that doesn't work then try the diflucan.

Do you have a doctor that can prescribe Jack Newman's all purpose nipple ointment from a compounding pharmacy? If not, you might want to try using a diluted solution of grapefruitseed extract (10 drops to 1 ounce of water) after every feeding. You can also use monistat or lotrimin cream.

Check out Jack Newman's thrush protocol.
