What's the deal with Mod Podge?

I remember using this stuff years ago but I also think I recall someone telling me I could use watered down white glue with the same end result for a fraction of the price. Is this true? Will I still get the nice shine that hodge podge gives off when dry? If not, where can I get if for a good price?

I am thinking of making some vases for gifts theis year and want them to look really nice but also want to go about it in a frugel fashion, kwim?

Do you mean Mod Podge?

We have used both the Elmer's white glue and the Mod Podge for many projects and the Mod Podge is definitely more transparent and holds up better to moisture than Elmer's. The Elmer's seems to be a bit mote flexible when dry, than the M.P.

Oh yes mod podge, my bad. Thanks for the review, sounds like I should go with the real thing for the best results.
