Is this an allergy?

I recently gave my DD some yogurt with some cinnamon sprinkled on top, it was the first time with plain yogurt and cinnamon.

Well she fell into it (she's graceful) and landed face first.

She eats a few bites and then I notice around her mouth is bright red and raised, almost like a welt.

She's gotten flavored yogurt on her face a thousand times with no effects...so I don't know if it was the cinnamon? A friend told me she'd heard of 'cinnamon burns' where cinnamon can burn your skin if you touch it...

Is it that or an allergy? I didn't think to take a picture and I'm too scared to give her cinnamon again to test the theory.

I'm sure she's had cinnamon in cereal or something before? I don't know though...

So summary, ate/touched cinnamon red all around her mouth instantly.

If she has otherwise been eating yogurt without issue, I'd suspect an allergy or intolerance to the cinnamon (it is also a skin irritant.) In either case, I'd stay clear of cinnamon for a while.

My dd2 had the same reaction to cinnamon. We cut it out for a year, and now she can tolerate it just fine.

I would say it is the cinnamon. My former partner's mother was incredibly allergic to it.

Thanks mamas! Guess we'll just avoid it for a while. It freaked me out. She didn't have any problems breathing or anything thankfully. DH is deathly allergic to poultry and I have a sensitivity to fish so it's not outside the realm of possibilities I suppose.
