Donating milk?

How do you go about finding someone to donate to? I joined milkshare on yahoo groups but is there some other way? I have 150oz in the freezer and I'm pumping 6-8oz/d more than baby is eating. I wouldn't be able to donate tons but I'd love to donate some to someone whose baby needs it. I struggled so very much with my first and know that heartbreak of having to open that can of formula when you really wanted to ebf, so I'd love to be able to help a struggling mama be able to provide milk to her baby.

I'd google "milkbank whatever state you are in."

Is there a local attachment parenting group where you are? They may have leads on mamas who are in need of donated BM.

If you post this same question in your tribal area you may inadvertently get PMs from MDC mamas in need. (I did. I don't think it violates the UA to offer, but AnnetteMarie could confirm/deny that....)

Milk banks are great, but they will be more restrictive with what they accept, so if you are taking any medications, for example, for PPD or anything, you may not be a candidate.

Re-post on milkshare, too.

Milkbanks give milk to people other than infants. They give milk to children and even adults with medical need. I don't have a problem with that but some moms might want their milk to go to infants.

I hope you are able to find a good use for your liquid gold!

I donated to a milk bank. You do have to go through blood tests to donate in most states. You might also try the parents group at the nearest hospital with a NICU.
