Thank you Hotmamacita for starting this thread.
My sister and her boys live there and it was a very scarey experience for them. Our prayers and thoughts pour out to those touched by the violence there and those who lost loved ones.

My thoughts and prayers are with the families and the wounded.

This is awful. I am so sad that the army didn't release the shooter from the army like he wanted. Imagine the lives that could have been spared if they did!

No one *wants* to be deployed, but if you join the military, which is voluntary, you most likely will be. Plus, he could have resigned his commission and got out just like that. He didn't have to go on a rampage.

Many, many, many prayers going up for all involved today. My dh is taking it real hard.

Sorry, dh just said he couldn't resign his commission because he was still *paying off* his debt to the miltary for schooling him. Just like a contract with anybody else.

My heart goes out to the family and friends of the victims.
Such a tragic loss.

Are you saying that the Army is responsible? Can you help me understand? It is my understanding that you cannot just "get" released from the Army because you want to be.

If this man intended on killing others it may have still occurred even after a release but the Army may not have had enough reason to discharge him.... some students being uncomfortable with him may not be reason enough. I do not think the Muslim Cleric reported his conversation to the Army.

The whole situation is just horrible all around.

Ladies, this was a horrible tragedy and my heart goes out to all impacted by this senseless tragedy. However we don't host a forum to discuss current affairs and this is definitely not the place to do so. So I am asking that you stick to expressing your condolences, thanks.

for the dead

and 30 more for the wounded

My heart goes out to them and their families. I live next to Ft. Hood... this is so hard for all of them.

Having been a part of the military 'familly' for 13yrs, I can imagine how this must be affected the entire community. The whole of Ft. Hood would be in shock, and that's no small feat I hope the families can find peace and that they bring each other comfort.

It was and still is a sad thing. We live here in Killeen and it is just so sad that others had to lose their lives in such a way.
