IgG positive to cod- should I avoid CLO?

A few months ago I got blood tested for IgE and IgG foods and spices. None of the foods came back positive, except surprisingly to me since I don't eat fish often, level 1 out of 4 for cod and sole.

Should I avoid cod liver oil or is it just the proteins that matter? How about fish oil capsules? Has anyone else been in this situation?

Usually it's the protein that causes the rxn, however, I know someone with severe food allergies that also reacts to the oils. I think it depends on the severity of your allergy whether or not you could tolerate the oil.

My DD tested positive to cod on the skin prick test. We do aviod CLO. I have found a Omega-3 (kids version) made from sardines and anchivoes (sp?) that doesn't cause a reaction. Maybe look for an alternative oil?

I would, for now, look for an alternative like pp said. I've seen salmon oil ones too.

Isn't fish oil extracted by pressing or some other very mechanical means? If so, that's definitely a no-no for someone with a true allergy (IgE). I don't know how IgG would play into it, but I probably wouldn't risk it.

It's not like they're extracting the oil from a seed with a protein-denaturing chemical/heat process. I know that cold-pressed oils are still a big problem for folks allergic to the initial product.

I should probably avoid the CLO for now then, and retry in a few months possibly. I should've thought of this last week before I ordered two new bottles but my doctor didn't mention CLO when we went over the tests and it didn't click- oops!

thanks everyone.
