Dishwasher Soap

Thread Starter
I've always had a hard time finding a good dishwasher soap. Our dishwasher is very very old and I really need something tough to get things clean enough. So I had resorted to chemicals in there. Until this week, I bought some Eco's dishwashing soap, but that alone didn't do the job, so I sprinkled some Borax over the dishes before putting a little squirt of the soap in. Wow! My dishes sparkle, do you think Borax alone would be enough to get the dishes thoroughly cleaned?

I'm not sure but if you try it, let us know how it works! Interesting.

I use one spoonful of borax, one of baking soda, 1/4 of a spoonful of coarse sea salt and 2 drops of grapefruit essential oil (you can use any citrus EO you like, lemon is also great). You put all these in the detergent compartment. For rinsing I use plain white vinegar.
The dishes get cleaned very well but they do not sparkle like they did when I used a commercial detergent. But at least I'm not eating chemicals

I would not use Borax on dishes as it can be toxic

Have you tried Ecover Tablets? They work well, even though I have hard water.

I also use Ecover powder. It works much better than other green dishwasher soap I tried.

I use the Method tablets. We have hard well water and this is the only green detergent I've found that will actually get our dishes clean.

I'm using the Reeva detergent from Aldi. Before this, the only green detergent I was happy with was the Ecover. The Aldi stuff is so much cheaper and it has the same ingredients.

Thanks for starting this thread! I have always struggled with finding a green way to get my dishes clean in the dishwasher...I am excited to try some of these suggestions!
