People w/ speaking disabilities - comments made by DS

We were at Panera last night for dinner. Sitting at a table next to a family who has a father that has obviously been in some sort of accident that has impaired his speech and physical abilities. His voice was a little louder than the norm and DS picked up on it quickly and made a comment that he was talking funny. I deverted him back to his dinner and everything was fine. I felt embarrased because the two kids that were sitting at the table shot a look over at us as did the wife.

Do you say anything to your LO in this sort of situation or just let it go? DS will be 4 in January.

I would have just said 'yes his voice is different, everyone is different some how and that's ok' or something. People with disabilities usually don't mind the innocent curiosity of children. They do mind being ignored to the point of not been seen, which is what a lot of people seem to do.
