I *HATE* maternity jeans!

Now that my childbearing years have spanned almost a decade, I've been around long enough to see the styles change more than once. In my first pregnancy, maternity jeans had a big, cotton knit tummy panel on the front and a drawstring to tighten them. The drawstring was a PITA because you had to tie it and get it just right so they wouldn't fall down but you could still pull them down to go to the bathroom.

In my second pregnancy, the only thing that changed was that the drawstring was replaced with buttonhole elastic, which was really just perfect...I had belly coverage and pants that would stay up w/o problems, but come down easily when I needed them to. I bought a couple of the "new" low waisted kind of pants, but always hated them because they either came right across the middle of my belly or they always fell down because I don't have broad enough hips to hold up a pair of pants all on their own.

In my third pregnancy, all of the styles had changed but I mostly wore jeans really early on in my pregnancy and either non maternity or mid-belly pants were okay. Then I switched to shorts and capris, which seem to be made with better panels. They don't come up to my bra, but they are 100% cotton, have wide elastic at the top that goes all the way around the waistband, and come above my navel, near the upper part of my belly.

This time, I'm going CRAZY because I really need PANTS, but I don't want nylon pantyhose tops on them (hello...no one wears pantyhose anymore because they are UNCOMFORTABLE AND HOT!), and I'm at that mid-pregnancy stage where my thighs, hips and butt get narrower and my belly takes over (okay, don't hate me...this always happens to me at around 20w...I'm just not one of those people who carries baby weight below the waist). This morning I put on a pair of pre-pregnancy jeans out of sheer desperation and guess what...they fit! For about half the day . Now the waistband is literally cramping my belly and I had to unbutton them. I'm gonna have to hunt up some jeans or pants that will be comfortable, STAY UP, and fit.

I just got home and ran upstairs to change into stretchy pants. I HATE HATE the way it feels to have my pants falling down. it seriously affects my mood. I also have narrow hips (relatively speaking) DO you think that is why they fall down? I don't know how anyone stands it!

I really, really hate maternity pants! My solution to the whole pregnancy clothing issue is to wear black leggings, boots, and long tunic tops. They're all regular clothes but are much more comfortable and still look good. This is a really good time for cltohing styles because tunics and leggings are in, so you can find them everywhere! I love jeans, but not during pregnancy!

I just spent my lunchtime trying on maternity jeans.
And didn't buy any!

ugh.

I was so hoping for a pair that would stay up and the new pantyhose type looked so promising. But the butts were all so formfitting (not in a good way right now!) and the pantyhose I was afraid of ripping (or getting caught in the laundry).

I think narrow hips are a culprit in pants falling down, but not the only culprit. I was looking at Gap's website and they actually advertise some of their maternity pants as "hip slung." Uh...yeah, I don't think so.

Tunics and leggings would so not work for me...I'm kind of an inverted triangle anyway, then you add the belly and...wow, just scary. I need the flare at the bottom of my pants to give my figure a base to stand on.

Bump bands are invaluable in keeping trousers up, particularly when you're in the middle months when maternity things are still slightly too big.

I have big boobs and small butt but when you add boots with the leggings it helps.

What I need are some maternity suspenders (maybe with a built-in grow-with-you-bra??) to hold up my pants. Hmm, I think I may be onto something here.

I was just thinking this today. I have a couple pairs of maternit jeans from before and they're... tolerable, but not great. I went out and bought a pair of the "secret belly" or whatever belly band type... and they drive me nuts b/c they fall off... but at least they keep my belly from getting cold where my shirts hang away from my belly.

I look ridiculous in leggings... my thighs are bigger than my hips and I have teeny calves and ankles - I look like a turkey! LOL also any kind of longer shirt/tunic that cuts across my upper thigh makes me look bigger than I am b/c it's my widest point.... which was unbelievably annoying when i was looking for a bathing suit this summer. My choice was skirty or shorts kinds that cut right across my thighs, or higher cut bikini types (and I don't have the belly that can do a bikini ) Terrible. I was SO frustrated!!

I actually do like the lower cut on-the-hip kind of maternity pants... as long as I don't need to sit down or bend over at which point they show off my lovely behind I've been wearing some of my lower cut pants that i bought when I was postpartum. they're slightly too big, but they cut below my belly and I like them better than the darn maternity... the problem? they're older and they're corduroy... I don't know if you've ever seen what happens when cords wear down... but, uh, my pants are sorta balding.

My friend had some of these (they do make them!) that snap on to her bra, so they're between your bra and your pants.

Well... I have wide hips, and the maternity jeans fall down on me, too. I *hate* them. I pretty much hate all maternity clothes. I think for me it is a proportions problem. The only maternity shop around here is that "Destination Motherhood" and it is okay, but not my usual style. I am strictly a "Point of View" (Nordstrom) lady, and they don't have any maternity styles.

Maternity suspenders sounds hilarious!

Trying to keep things positive, I do have one pair of khaki pants that are all right. Awesome, one pair of khakis for the next 18 weeks...

I really like my maternity pants. My favorite right now are the kind with the wide elastic band that goes all the way around. I have some corduroys, cargo pants, and baggy jeans that are comfy, and the band is just tight enough to keep them up but not too tight.

They are several years old though, not sure if they still make that kind. I'd check Craigslist and thrift stores. Oh, I think I also saw some at Ross. I think I got my cargo pants at Kohl's (five years ago).

Oh, also, I found that the panty hose kind are most comfy and work the best if you fold down the panel so that it looks like a belly band around the top of the jeans.

I have several pairs of full panel pants with the elastic band across the top that I'm not big enough to wear yet. I remember those being the most comfortable during the third trimester.

Of course, maybe I just don't have the same problem as you all because I have plentiful hips. :-)

try the bella band http://www.ingridandisabel.com/
I got mine last week and I love love love it. It really keeps the pants up and in place,
even when completely unbottoned/unzipped. So comfy. it's the only thing I'm buying this pregnancy. They are pricey (I paid 40 CAD), but well worth it, and apparently the cheaper ones from other manufacturers just don't live up to the expectations.

I hate panel pants/jeans. I can still wear some of my pre-pregnancy jeans if the waist is low enough. My very favorite pair is a pair of transition jeans that I got from Babystyle when pregnant with dd1. I wore them until 2 weeks before I delivered her. I am like you and only carry the weight in my belly, so thankfully I can avoid the panels for a good long while. I look at my maternity clothes from ds1 and the shirts look like tents and the pants all have the big panel. I always thought the drawstring was a PITA, especially since you could see it through the shirts (well not always since most were so tent like ). Anyway, I feel your pain.

I complained about this exact same style a few weeks ago. Who the heck likes itchy pantyhose tops all the way up to their belly buttons? I ended up with a pair because I'm short as heck and that's all the local maternity stores here sell in short lengths. And yes, they are every bit as unflippincomfortable as I thought they would be. Oh, and they STILL fall down all the time! Rrrrrr! I HATE these stupid pants.

The lady at the store the first time I went to look insisted I would love them because, "They were designed by Angelina Jolie." Um, and I'm supposed to care because??? I left with no pants that time, determined to find the kind I got last time in my length. No such luck, so I ended up with these crappy pants and I hate them.

Yeah, the Angelina Jolie thing Apparently she's a goddess of knowing what's comfortable? It *does* solve the problem of the line across my belly when I wear the above-the-belly sort... I hated that... but I wouldn't say it's wonderfully comfortable. And I don't wash my pants every time I wear them unless they're dirty, and the second day they fall off *more*

I hear you!

I have never had the annoying itchy belly thing with my previous 2 pregnancies, but this time around anything over my belly is annoying me. I'm using a mix of jeans from my pregnancy with DS 6 years ago (the old pouch with the drawstring style) but those jeans are getting small holes near the back pockets so I'm mostly wearing them at home (they are not revealing undies or anything at this point but they are getting thread bare). They don't fit right over my belly this time. I carry huuuuge too. All in my belly, but I am short w/ a short torso so i always look way more pg than I am. I'm 21 weeks and look more like 30-35 weeks IMO. It has been that way with my other 2 pregnancies too.

I have a love/hate thing going on w/ the motherhood secret fit jeans with the big stretchy top. They are okay, but man, they fall off my butt!! I have a flat but normally and regular non-maternity jeans get saggy on my rump anyway but the secret fit like all but fall off my bum after I bend over enough times. THe butt droops down after a few hours

I'm seriously considering going the leggings route for day to day...not my normal style, but at least "in style" right now overall, and i'm hoping more comfy than what i'm dealing with currently.

I'm not fond of maternity pants either, they NEVER fit right.

A suggestoin though that has worked for me this pg. What I've done (well a friend has done for me I should say) was get maternity clothes on free cycle. Not sure if she posted she was looking for them or just found them being offered. I haven't spent a dime and what doesn't fit I just pass on to our second hand store and there's no pressure cause everything is free. I actually have 3 pairs of maternity pants now, I think they are all old navy, that fit well enough to wear and I think will last the whole pg...I don't LOVE them or anything but they are better then wearing no pants which was my next solution! Also I now have many really cute maternity shirts and again, it's all free and I don't have to stand in a store tyring on 10,000 articles of clothing! Anyway, just a thought....

Good luck!

I'm hating maternity jeans this time around too. I think I've only gained in my belly. I've been wearing my pre-pregnancy jeans, completely unzipped with a rubberband and a bella band. That is the best I can do - any other pants are too tight and uncomfortable or way to baggy in the bum and thighs.

Maybe I should just wear yoga pants all winter. I'll be cold, but comfortable.
