I'm in the middle of my schooling here in Colorado and am moving to Maine next summer. I REALLY don't want to have to wait a year to complete school, especially because I get veterans benefits which expire in 2011, and skipping a year would waste a lot of money that our family depends upon.
Is the philosophy behind charging out-of-state tuition that the university is publicly funded and they don't want students to get in-state rates and then take their skills back out of state? We are not moving because of my schooling (in fact, our move makes it much more inconvenient!) and we are expecting to stay in Maine for the foreseeable future.
So, has anyone obtained in-state tuition rates when out-of-state normally applies? I want to petition for in-state, but don't know if it's even worth it if there's zero change that it'll be granted!
