I agree with all the PP that mentioned movies, takeout & help! We're pretty much a no-tv family, but when mama gets sick I will snuggle my boys on the couch for movie...

Here's my survival plan for exhausted/sick mama -

DP takes the boys out before work (even if that means that they are at the playground @ 6:00 in the morning). I try to get help with rides to school or just an hour outing during the day, as well.

We do take out, eat sandwichs for dinner, cereal for lunch.

We read lots of books & I spend as much time as possible parenting from a verticle position. I set up legos & books on tape for DS1. I let DS2 empty all the dresser drawers, wash rocks in a basin, take the books of the shelves while I watch from the couch.

We have tea parties, make juice popsicles, eat lots of chewable vitamin c.

Finally, we take lots of long warm baths with essential oils. Both my boys love the tub & will play contentendly until we run out of hot water. When I got the dreaded H1N1 last spring, we took 3 baths a day!

If I feel well enough, we walk to a very close green space (hot tea in hand), so we can all breath some fresh air.

I call these days the survival days. I don't try to be a good parent, I just try to make sure that the kids are fed, the babies diaper is changed & that they don't hurt each other. It's OK if the house is a mess, if not single vegetable has been eaten, if we stay inside all day. We just try to survive the day & hope to feel better tomorrow.

DP and I were both miserably ill with presumed swine flu a few weeks ago. DS was allowed free reign. We had people bring us food because we couldn't drive or cook. DS thought that it was so weird to see mama and papa both at home in the middle of the week, laying around watching netflix online that he was mostly just baffled the first day. He mostly ran in circles and ate lots of apple slices and cheese LOL

seriously i dont think you should really worry about it. its ok to have a plan - or try to have a plan. dd was 18 months old when i was delirious with mastitis. ex came to bring me the medicine but he mentioned nothing about child so i kept her with me. she mostly slept and nursed with me (mastitis in just one breast).

i have noticed she has picked up on the strangeness when i have been sick and has been much more comfortable with hanging around me rather than running and playing around.

as she grew older she was more comfortable taking care of me. thankfully the last time i was really sick was when both of us got the flu when she was 3. we spent most of the time in bed. i remember making sippy cups of juice water for her rehydration and she basically slept along with me. later on my friends got me groceries.

so we managed. now my dd is 7 and i am no longer concerned. we have not really been sick since then either. <touch wood>

i have been sick even with a 9 month old and she just stayed with me and nursed mostly. today i have a village. when younger i did not have any.

We don't own a TV so this is what we do:

Lots of baths and showers. I honestly do not care one iota about using tons of hot water or any sort of water conservation when we're sick. Shaving cream, shaving gel, whatever it takes.

Usually we're all sick at the same time, so that usually means dd will rock and take an afternoon nap (the only time she ever does).

If we're really incapacitated, I make dh stay home. Sometimes my parents are able to help for an hour or two but they're pretty busy so I don't get much help.

Order Chinese take out with veggies or anything else that is easily picked-up. We have been known to order McDonald's cheeseburgers and eat those with canned veggies or steamed frozen veggies at home.

We get new books from the library or pull out fresh ones from our shelf. Winnie the Pooh has been a big hit this week that we've been sick.
