Will 4mo start napping longer?

Ds is 4 mo and a light sleeper. He falls asleep with me holding him (nursing or not). Usually, I can put him in the basinet and he'll stay asleep. But he wakes up 10-15 minutes later or so just about every time. He's obviously still tired, but he's awake and ready to play. He doesn't cry or seem the least bit unhappy, but he gets tired and needs another nap pretty soon.

If I keep putting him down, will he eventually start sleeping longer?

If I keep him on my lap, he's more likely to have a full nap, though not guaranteed. But I'd love to be able to have time with ds1 while ds2 sleeps. If he cried when he woke up alone, I'd definitely keep holding him. He doesn't need to nurse to sleep, and actually sometimes flat out refuses to do so (so very different than ds1!!).

I would try wearing him during naps at this age...my DD is also 4 months old and while she doesn't need to be worn (like DD1 did) she does need to have me nearby to pop her paci back in her mouth..otherwise she is up! Nighttime is a different story....she just sleeps a lot more soundly paci or not.

Does he sleep on his tummy? DS started sleeping longer (meaning 30-45 min instead of 20 min) when I let him tummy-sleep. Or what about sleeping in a swing?

Funny you should ask- he just in the last few days started rolling onto his tummy to sleep at night. He's very good about going back to sleep at night (he wakes a lot, but never fully wakes up, iykwim).
I think I'll try putting him down for naps on his belly today.

I've been holding him for at least one full nap a day, so he gets *some* decent sleep!
