Help with sugar addiction

I am looking for a plan to help me battle my food and especially sugar addiction. The problem is I need something that is not meat or dairy heavy because I know that these are not great for me as I always feel yucky after eating them- even organic meat and raw dairy. I was hoping someone could point me to a book or website that can lay out what to eat and what not to eat or even a "strict" type plan as I do better with spelled out "rules". I cannot really do a detox as I am nursing a 15mo old and don't think that will be ending anytime soon. But I feel like crap and feel that things are going wrong inside my body and I know it is due to my eating habits. Thanks for anything anyone has to offer.

There is a book on sugar sensitivity "Potatoes not prozac"

Eat2Live maybe? I think they have no dairy, meat or sugar. There is a thread you could enquire on in the fitness forum.

I had (and still ahve a little) severe candida. My naturopath put me on a candida cleanse that is wonderful. One of the hard things was the sugar addiction. It was really hard to stop the sugar because of the cravings from the candida. They actually went away pretty fast after I did a sugar starvation diet. Sugar and white flour stuff actually.

Here is what helped me through the cravings. Stevia extract! It has no sugar and no calories. I like the extract much better than the powder. You only need a couple drops for a big cup size. Plus they come flavored naturally so you can get creative.

Before I stopped coffee I would make iced coffee at home and sweeten it with stevia. So its like I had my starbucks iced coffee.

Th biggest thing was my dairy free chocolate milk. Its healthy and alkalizing. I buy the UNSWEETENED chocolate almond milk and pour it in a glass and add a couple drops of stevia and then put it in the freezer for a few minutes so its really cold. My naturopath's assistant recommened this to me. Yum!

If you can tough it out for a few days and do a sugar starvation diet I promise the cravings will go away. I can't even eat a bowl of ice cream or drink a soda or juice now. I have no desire for them.

The cravings do go away, but I have to say it takes more than a few days.
Another good book is Sugar Shock. This really goes into the health consequences of sugar, and that alone is enough to scare anyone away from the stuff.

Thank you all for your input. I will check into the books mentioned. I know this is something I need to do- but it's so hard- but it's nice to here from others who have struggled and gotten through it

If you just do the sugar starvation diet, expect mild withdrawl symptoms. Sugar is addictive; headaches are a very common side effect from eliminating it suddenly. But it soooo worth it! Good luck!

Just a little added motivation for you --

I went to hear a nutritionist speak today, and she informed us that when we (or our children) eat lots of sugar, our white blood cells are prohibited from doing their job for five to six hours, which shuts down our immune system completely for that amount of time, leaving us tremendously vulnerable.

Since it is flu season, think of your fight against sugar as supporting your fight against illness!
