Normal to Stay in Same Size Cover Forever and Ever?

We've been using size small Imse Vimse Cotton Covers since DS was about 1.5 months. He's now 15 months and these covers are showing no signs of getting too small. The sizing for Imse Vimse is as follows:

Small 11-17 lbs
Medium 15-22 lbs.
Large 20-26 lbs.

I haven't weighed DS recently, but I think he's at least 22 lbs.
The velcro is starting to fail on our covers, so I'm trying to figure out what size I should buy for the new covers. The small fits him so well and at this age he's not gonna get chunkier, right? He'll mostly just get longer/taller. So is it smart to buy more smalls, or should I go up a size? (The person who I buy frolm runs a cloth diaper workshop and she had said of the Imse Vimse covers that it wasn't unusual for a baby to skip the Medium completely...to stay in the small until ready for a large).

Ds was in medium from 5 months until potty training. he was in one large cover and he could have been in the medium but it was for night time so it needed to be bigger

If you sew or know someone who does, you can buy more aplix and fix the velcro... and keep using those smalls until you know he's ready for large! That's what I would do.

DD2 fits the mediums and the larges just fine. She's 19lbs, long and thin and the larges aren't that much bigger than the mediums. I'd get larges if I were you, they'll probably be the last covers you'll buy!

ETA: your DS is a week younger than my DD2! She hasn't fit the smalls in a while but that's because all her weight is in her bottom. When I ordered her mediums they were way bigger than the smalls and not much smaller than the larges (had lg from DD1) so we use them both.

the little boy i nanny for has both the larges and mediums and there is not much of a difference (as other people have posted, lol).

My ds has been in small thirsties covers since he was like 6 months old? He'll be 2 years old next month, LOL!!! They supposedly end at 18 pounds, but he is about 22, mauybe 23, and they still fit really well..big even.
