Looks like a bug bite, or contact dermatitis.

I was wondering about a spider bite...

Looks like contact dermatitis to me too. Poison ivy, oak, or sumac around? New soap or lotion or detergent?

He has had it for 6-8 months now .. we use burts bee's soap on him and we make our own laundry detergent so all that is the same .. it goes down and then flares back up OFTEN !! we have taken him to the dr. about it and they aren't much help ..

could it be due to his allergy to latex ?? is there latex in diapers ?? b/c it only happens near his diapers (i have stripped them repeatedly and switched him to just disposables )

That's the same spot my DD2 had her rash, but the pediatrician said her's was eczema. It looked more like a chafing rash. And her's was from corn intolerance.

I don't know about latex but when we needed to use disposables, dd would get a rash from all disposable dipes except the Kirkman (Costco) brand. And contact allergies generally develop over repeated exposure so I would NOT rule out soap or detergent at all, actually that would make me more suspicious.

Sorry for serial posting but I wanted to add that many soaps & detergents are coconut based, and many Burt's Bees products have dairy & wheat in them.

we make our laundry detergent out of lye soap , washing soda and borax .. and as far as burts bees that is what i have used onhim from day one but i am willing to try something else just not sure what (he has had seizures after being washed with Johnson & Johnson at G-ma's) .. he does have excema and we use hydrocortosine on his leg but it doesn't get better (its also starting onthe other leg now)

My DD (allergic to dairy, egg, peanuts, tree nuts, shellfish) would break out from Burts Bees products. She does get similar looking spots from contact allergies. I had to be careful with what I used when she was nursing because she would react to skin to skin contact. She bathes with epsom salts and a little bit of vanicream soap and not too often hair washing with California baby. She turned 4 last month and is less reactive now.
