History of Sever Nausea and Vomiting/Hyperemesis-come on in!

Just thought it would be a good place for support if anyone is so unlucky.

What was your past experience and what are you doing to prepare for the worst of it?

With Maya it lasted 26 weeks the worst for me starts around 7 weeks and consists of vomiting 7-8 times per day I went on meds with her around 8.5 weeks and felt better but they only ever really took the edge off

With Carolina it was shorter and ended around 17 weeks. Same early experience. Except I had a 2 year old to care for.

This time i tried ot prepare by taking milk thistle and b-6 before pregnancy so we will see. I also founda high protein diet helped quite a bit.

Now at 5 weeks with this one I can feel it creeping over me. I had a huge amount of guilt for taking meds with the other two, but I think I have come to terms that in order to not be hospitalized it's what I need to do.

I was sick for the first five months. By the end of that period I had *lost* 20 lbs. I couldn't eat anything. Then I discovered acupuncture. It was a miracle drug for me. I started getting acupuncture once a week and all of a sudden I could eat! I will be starting acupuncture as soon as I get a positive test. I'm just not going to go there again.

I had severe nausea til 16wks, and it wasn't the worst ever but it made life really hellacious. This time I have a two year old as well.

My SIL is 14wks preg right now, and has spent the whole time vomiting numerous times a day, dehydrated, an gaining no weight. So yesterday she finally got a perscription filled of Zofran, and I'll check in with her this morning to see how it's working. If I wind up with the same as last pregnancy, I'm going to consider it.

And I am determined that my choices for this pregnancy are not going to induce guilt, I have to do what's best for this baby AND myself, AND the rest of my family. It's a much larger equation.

Bottom line.

I vomited 1-4 times a day and was nauseated 24/7 until 12 weeks of my first pregnancy (until I m/c), and for 20 week of my second pregnancy. I've been taking B6 since the beginning of last AF to help with my luteal phase (it worked!), and I have continued to take it in case it helps. Both times, the nausea started at 6 weeks, pretty much overnight.

Honestly? I'm just trying not to think about it.

I did acupuncture last time, and it helped some - kept me functional enough to go to work, but not much else. If it's as bad this time around, I'll take meds. I've already made that decision - I can't put my husband through that with a toddler in the house. He had to do everything last time, and there is a lot more "everything" this time!

With #1 I was super nauseous and vomited 24 hours a day from week 6 to week 12 when I finally started taking medication. I had already lost more than 10% of my body weight so I was in danger of being hospitalized. The medication helped with the vomiting but I was still sooo sick.

With #2 it was the same thing but I threw up even more - like 20+ times a day. I started zofran at 10 weeks because again I had lost about 15 pounds. The nausea didn't last quite as long with #2 and I felt better at around 17 weeks.

So I'm scared. Last time I tried B6, milk thistle, dandelion root, ginger, etc. (all the standard routines) but nothing seemed to help. I also used 1/2 a unisom each night for awhile and it kept me from vomiting but I felt even worse and I don't know if it's much safer than zofran??

Anyway, I would love to try acupuncture this time. Also, what dosages does everyone use of the B6, milk thistle, dandelion. I forgot how much I was taking and I haven't seen the midwife yet.

Good Luck everyone. I am approaching 6 weeks with dread and feigned optimism.

I am taking 2 50mg of b6 a day one in the morning and one at night and 2 150mg of milk thistle. I think my prenatal has another 50mg of b6 in it as well. I hadn't heard bot the dandelion. So far the nausea has been in the morning and eases by afternoon.

I tried Zofran but it only worked for about a week before it stopped working. I have had the best luck with phenergan which was ok since zofran was $25 a tablet and insurance only covered 10 a month it just wasn't sustainable financially.

I lost 10lbs with each girl and was a little underweight to begin with, not fun at all.

oh ladies, I am feel so so sorry for you. I will not be joining ... I don't ever actually throw up....

my heart is with you as you each struggle in these first weeks.

I'm sad to say that I'm having the first inklings of nausea as of last night. It mostly still feels like heartburn - but it's constant...and I recognize it. I'm praying, praying that it either stays true "morning" sickness (dare to dream!), or only lasts for the first trimester.

Just put a call in to my acupuncturist...hope he can help!

Crossing my fingers that none of us needs to suffer severe nausea and vomit multiple time a day. Sending easy pg vibes out to everyone.

I was the same as some of you. My morning sickness set in at 5.5 weeks with my son, and lasted until approximately 25 weeks and even after on rare occasions.

I haven't done anything to prepare this time around because I didn't know there was anything I could do. Last time, I was prescribed Zofran and still managed to lose 10 pounds in the first trimester and I only gained (net) 7 pounds the entire pregnancy.

Gavin seemed to gain just fine though. He was a healthy 7 lbs 10 oz.

I had a very similar experience when I was pregnant with my dd. It began around 6 weeks or so and lasted until 28 weeks or so. I used zofran after trying a few other things first. By the time I got prescribed zofran the vomiting was beginning to subside anyway. I will use it this time if it need it. But I have been taking b-6 and milk thistle for about two months now. I am optimistic this time. I don't know why. I just don't feel like its going to be as bad. for all of us!!!!

ugh, it's starting.......

with dd i had severe heartburn and nausea and constant vomiting starting about 6 weeks until about 26 or so weeks, i lost count. i lost a lot of weight, but managed to stay hydrated and off meds/hospitalization.

i read somewhere (gotta find it!) that the amount of food you eat/weight you gain in the 1st trimester has the greatest bearing on the weight of your baby. dd was pretty small at 6 lb 6oz. we had to buy preemie clothes/dipes for her.

with ds i was just fine. no nausea or vomiting. hungry constantly. he was 8 lbs 6 oz.

the heartburn and nausea has started, no vomiting yet, but i haven't hit 6 weeks. if it continues and i start puking constantly, it will affirm my intuition that this baby is a girl, obviously, for me, girls make me pretty and barf-y, boys make me hungry and fluffy.

My best friend (also pregnant, about 10 days ahead of me) called me this morning to tell me that her nausea started. We went through our last pregnancies together, too - both of us sick. She never threw up...but it was still discouraging to hear that she is nauseated this time, too.

Mild heartburn yesterday, but it was just a wave mid-morning, and it went away. Need to remember to eat small snacks every few hours, rather than 3 bigger meals. I can really feel how much digestion is slowed down.

Hi, I'm DDC crashing from March. I just wanted to ease your mind about this. You and Baby gain the most weight at the end of pregnancy. Baby will be nourished just fine from the stores in your body at this stage. Wherever this info came from, it is not correct. I have had two HG pregnancies, and both boys were over 7 lbs. I lost quite a bit of weight each first tri (15-20#), and I am a normal/slim woman, so it was more than 10% of my weight for me (but, only just b/c I am taller than average).

Your DD was on the smaller side, but still a very good/healthy weight.

I ate almost *nothing* every time (I am on my third!). I am now eating a lot of food, and very seldom vomit (once a week, maybe?) I am 23 weeks. Also, I have gained 20 pounds, so I am where I need to be. Still constantly nauseous, though. Hypnosis works for me, but my DH is out of the country, and I can't use hypno b/c of constant interruptions by my two children. Oh, well. All will be well in less than 2 weeks (I hope!).

I hope all of you are feeling good soon.

started throwing up last night I am nervous as this is earlier than I have started before. I am taking my milk thistle and b6 hoping it will take the edge off. Started today with a high protein smoothie we'll see if that helps.

I have my first appointment on the 23rd I am hoping I can make it until that point before needing meds.

My girls were 8.6 and 7.13 at birth both very healthy sizes despite the rocky beginning.

Drinking a small glass of milk seems to be helping a bit with the heartburn...but it's early, yet. Talk to me a week from today!

HAH! I shun you!

Sigh.

I usually start barfing around 6 weeks and don't stop until about a 2 week grace period over the middle of the 2nd trimester, then it's back to barfing allllllllllll the way to the finish.

How does everyone keep from getting dehydrated? That's the hardest part for me! Food isn't too big of a deal as I'm fluffy to begin with. I *always* lose weight while pregnant though, never fails.

I have never, ever felt so sick during a pregnancy! I'm grotesquely nauseous all the time (except when lying down) but haven't thrown up yet... two close calls but not it. I feel like i have nails in my belly. I know I shouldnt even say it, but I wish I would just throw up already-- just to get some relief. As a teacher, I'm in front of kids most of the day. I've got an escape route plan in mind, but can you imagine the trauma I'd drop on my students if I didnt make it!

i spent most of the day on the couch trying not o puke. tomorrow i'm going to get like 30 bottles of carbonated water......the only thing that settles my stomach.

thanks! i know babies gain nearly all their weight in the last trimester.

i read a study (still haven't had time to look for it, saved on my other computer) that showed that the *amount* of weight your baby will *end up* gaining gets somewhat determined by the mother's weight gain in the first trimester.

ditzy pg brain makes me fuzzy when trying to articulate!
