foreign travel--are vax's required?

A friend of mine from India has invited my family to travel to India to visit her family sometime in the next year. We do not vax, and I was wondering if we would be required to receive vaccinations in order to travel to India, or if our US philosophical exemptions are honored for travel into India. I haven't traveled outside the country in 12 years so I'm really unaware of what the rules are. Anyone know?

There are very few countries that require vaccinations for entry to their country. As far as I know, only some African countries require yellow fever vaccinations. All other vaccinations tend to be recommendations based on the potential for contracting disease in particular areas, but are not country mandated.

Hi expatmommy,

I see from your sig that you are expecting! Congratulations! I just want to note that you might want to check the region you are visiting for any health threats because you are pregnant. Not that I think vax'ing would help; you would just want to know. At the moment, my DH is in a high-risk part of Africa so the kids and I are staying home while he visits. And that is just because I am pregnant, not because we don't vax.

Good luck with your travel plans! It sounds fun!

Vaccines are only recommended, but not a law anywhere in the world.

I believe the quadrivalent vaccine for meningococcal disease is mandatory for hajjis to enter Saudi Arabia.

I think you are confusing me with the OP. I actually live overseas & have for a number of years and pregnancies.
