Vitamins?

Hey everyone! I am still very tentative, I hate that m/c's have done this to me, so posting is kind of a big deal (I feel like I am jinxing myself). Anyway.......

What prenatals do you guys like? I have some brand that I uh..have no idea, it's something my doctor gave me when I had my first m/c and i just kept taking them when we started ttc again. I am almost out and wanted to see what everyone takes.

I want something good, that's not too pricey and doesn't smell! :nana I may just go with the ones at Costco (naturemade) any opinions? I can do Trader Joe's or Whole foods too...they seem really pricey though.

I am also taking
Low Dose Aspirin
Extra folic acid (I'm overweight so this is a precaution I feel I need to take)
Progesterone (suppo)
Essential Fatty Acids
prenatal
Vitamin B complex

How about you? I don't know how much longer I can do the Vit. B, it almost made me gag this morning, of course when I get gaggy it makes me so happy!

I decided to go with Trader Joes this time, and see if there might be something better with the next bottle. I am interested to see what our ddc thinks!

Hi and Welcome!
I take Rainbow Light Prenatal "One" and I really like them. They're all natural, food-based and vegan. They're big but I haven't seen any prenatals that aren't and I don't find them tough to get down. I can take them anytime even not with meals and they never make me feel sick like some others I have tried. Also, they've got other stuff in them that I like- red raspberry leaf, probiotics (I think), ginger etc. And they've got all the right levels of stuff (and very high folic acid, 800mg). I find they're not expensive at all online - I get mine from iherb.com and I think I paid $25 for a bottle of 150. And they're one-a-day so that's like 5 months for $25- you can't get a better or cheaper all natural food-based vitamin for that price. Do I sound like an ad? I guess I really like them.
I also take pharmaceutical grade mercury- and toxin-free omega 3 and calcium supplements.
When I was choosing my prenatal I was researching online and found a list of prenatals that had trace amounts of lead in them (not cool!). I think this list is also somewhere on MDC, if you care to do a search.

That's a good price actually, the ones at Costco were only $17, but for 90 days. I would like to take something without lead. (ya think?!) I will definitely check them out, and anything with ginger I love.

Why are you taking Mercury? (just curious...or nosey)

And to probe a little more, what kind of calcium are you taking, I would like to get some too.

Thanks!

i hate prenatals/multis so i've always taken 1-2 packets of emergnc instead. not only are they pretty much the same constitutionally as prenatals, but they don't have the gag factor and help to soothe my nausea.

I think she meant "mercury-free" Omega-3 .. ?

I'm taking New Chapter Perfect Prenatal vitamins. They are a little pricey ($64 for 180 @ 3/day), but my medical flexible account covers them, and my research (mostly on MDC) lead me to believe these are the best you can get- though Rainbow Light was my 2nd choice. But these are really nice- I can take them any time- I kinda like that it's 3/day, because I can take 2 in the am & 1 with my Omega-3 in the pm, and I feel like there's no big "spike" of nutrients at any one time. Also, they have all kinds of extra supplemental stuff (I don't have the bottle in front of me & can't remember, but you can Google them). This may sound weird, but they kinda make me burp rosemary ... there isn't any rosemary in them, but I kinda taste rosemary after taking them. I think it's a pleasant side effect. So, there's my 2 cents.

I take rainbow light vitamins! The once a day prenatal. I find it worth the extra few dollars a month because it is all food based vitamins and it has added probiotics and digestive enzymes.
I took the new chapter for 4 months and then switched to these I could not believe that I thought the rainbow lights were better!? I could really feel that I was absorbing and using these vitamins.
I also take thier clacium which is fantastic.

the calcium.

I also take nordic naturals omega, $21 for 3 months or so of doses...

Great info! I'm just about to run out of my CVS brand prenatals. I feel neither here nor there about them and would like to try something else. My super crunchy girlfriend swears that all you need is folic acid and vitamin-e for a supple uterus...

so for now, I take:

vitamin e
vitamin c
cvs prenatal
omega 3

I'll pop in to rainbow light, after such nice recommendations

I'm also taking the New Chapter Organics Perfect Prenatal. I need a lower-iron prenatal, because it makes me sick, so this one works well. And it's whole-food-sourced, with probiotics and other nifty stuff.

In addition, I take a folate, and calcium+magnesium.

That is SO Funny. I totally missed that, but my pregnant brain completely excepted the fact that she was taking mercury. I even thought to myself, "thats interesting, its so poisonous."

Goodness gracious. I hope I can get through this with some wit intact.

haha! I was thinking that too, why would anyone take mercury on purpose? I thought maybe she was part robot or something. I can't blame pregnancy brain, just good ole' fashion brain-dead moment. Actually I didn't even think about what mercury is...haha! Good thing I didn't run out and eat a thermometer.

Right now I'm just taking the Trader Joe's prenatals as well. They seemed to be a good price to me, although I don't know how well they really compare to some of the others. I initially bought it before pg just to take ahead of time so I wasn't all that worried about how they stack up, but maybe I'll start looking around at others for when these are gone.

Has anyone ever found prenatals that aren't such horse pills? I'd be willing to take two or three at a time if it meant they were smaller. Cutting it up would just make it less smooth (to swallow) and I'm way too lazy for that anyway. I hate huge pills.

I started taking "Simply One One-Per-Day" with DD's pregnancy since I got sick on other brands. Well balanced and lots of folic acid. I also take Vitamin E, C, D and Udo's Oil DHA blend and these help keep my immunity up. I'll probably drop the E and start with extra Calcium to get a jump on the 3 tri leg cramps.

I know rainbow light has a TON of differnt prenatals in varying sizes and amounts per day....if you truly have a prob swallowing pills its worth looking into!

ROFL! We are totally pregnant, right? I was like, 'Mercury? Why would she take that? I have never heard of that...'

I am taking prenatals and I will start taking omega 3 soon.

Rainbow has a mini-pill you have to take two a day but they are smaller. I think they are on sale this month through frontier if you have access to a buying group.

I am trying out nature's plus, it is also whole food sourced and looks good. The rainbow light ones just don't sit well with me. I also take Vitamin D, Flax seed oil milk thistle and b-6 the last two are to help with the nausea.

rainbow lights are very good. i've spent a long time working in hfs's and one of the girls there had a gastric by-pass, and her doctor recommended rainbow light prenatals above all other vitamins because they are easier to absorb than any other vitamins he's found. i thought that spoke volumes about their formula.

lol, about the mercury! i didn't even catch that part!
